When does it begin to snow in Minnesota?

I'm thinking about a trip to the Mall of America Thanksgiving week, but don't know about the weather.

I have a feeling it's starts to snow around Halloween, but I'm not sure.

(ooooohh ... more smilies!!! ... :wave2: )

Anytime between the beginning of Oct and January. Seriously. Last year, I think it was, it didn't snow until a week or so before Christmas.

You can handle it. It's not THAT bad!!!! 5 million people or so live here and survive it day in and day out :) You can handle a weekend, hee hee!!:teeth:

This week it was in the 80's and sunny, last week barely out of the 50's. I've seem light snow in early October, and many years with no snow until late December... ya just never know!'

I will tell you that the MOA will be PACKED from the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas on any weekend... weekdays aren't so bad, but the week of Thanksgiving shouldn't be too bad.

Pretty much from Oct. - April you just cannot predict the weather in advance.

I agree with all of the other posters. Take it from me, the MOA WILL be packed on the day after Thanksgiving!!!

I've lived in MN my entire life and I've always thought of Halloween as the unofficial start of the snow season, but like others have already said, the only thing predictable about our weather is the unpredictability!

We didn't get any rain this summer, so we'll probably end up with a lot of precip this winter!

Actually, our official snow season is mid-September (I believe the 20th) thru Memorial weekend...no kidding.

As for this year... Silver Bay (just north of Duluth) had 3" of snow early last week...of course it was gone the later the same day.

As others have mentioned, this has been an extremely dry year...so we really don't have a clue what the fall and winter will bring....not that we really ever do!

If you are flying in....no problem, the MOA is only 2 minutes from the airport...and if you are driving....the roads would be clear enough to get those shoppers to their destinations!

Hope you make it in!

It is definitely unpredictable. I think the average first measurable snowfall is like late October/early November. Usually that first" measurable" snowfall melts same or next day.

If you are talking about snow sticking...it could be by Thanksgiving. You just never know from year to year.

I see you are from NY...I am assuming you are flying...If you are worrying about being able to land here when it snows, don't. MSP stays open through worse weather than anywhere else because we are prepared for it. I can only honestly think of maybe 3 times MSP has completely closed due to weather in the 23 years I have lived here.

Does anybody remember the big Halloween snow storms we had more than ten years ago. It snowed so much that some of the roads were full of snow potholes that never went away until the spring thaw.

It sounds like the weathermen are predicting a bigger snowfall than usual.

I don't know about anybody else, but I never even wore my boots last winter.

Dunno, but I do know it's snowing down in Tasmania & this is Spring............something fishy going on with the weather over here:confused:
