When does camping gear go on sale?

I'd like to pick up some gear for next year - basic stuff (I'm a newbie). When do stores discount stuff?

Start hitt'n the stores right now. Stores will be clearing out from now thru fall.

One of my favorite s is Academy Sports.

Check craig's list.... we won't buy used tents or air mattresses... but you can find some really good deals on lanterns, stoves, and other camping things.... We just purchased a really nice Coleman propane lantern... barely used... still in box... sold regulary for around $50... we only paid $10. It looks brand new.

Yes! Start looking now, especially in stores where camping items are in a seasonal section in sporting goods and they need the room to integrate winter items (like Sear's, Target, Wal-Mart). Coleman is a trust worthy name and those stores all sell Coleman products, plus their own brand.

Another yes! LOVE Craig's List....found some stuff recently (including my great new camp kitchen). Also, Garage Sale season is picking up again (Spring and Fall) and while I wouldn't buy mattresses or tents (well, it really depends on the tent/usage, etc.-because sometimes you stumble upon a weekend warrior who thought they were a camper, used the stuff once and then decided their roughing it is the Motel 6 ), you can find lots of the small things that add up the price if you were buying them new.

Coleman outlets have great prices. The only two times I've been to one they were having an additional 40% off sale. That was end of August and right after Christmas.

I too, would start looking now.
Stores need to clear out stuff to make room for Santa.

My walmart and target never clearance camping gear... they carry the same limited supply year round. : (

Never...you can camp year around. Kind of like pool chemicals, they never clearance those either because you need those year around as well.
