When does a bus pull out the stop sign?

School bus driver here. When approaching the stop, I push the button for the yellow warning lights. When I arrive at the stop, I open the door which automatically sends the "STOP" sign out. My students have been instructed NOT to leave their designated spot until the door opens and the sign comes out. If they cross in front of the bus, I also have hand signals they MUST wait for.

I'm definately waiting with him tomorrow. Thank you all for taking the time to post. Its not so much my child I'm worried about but the other kids that don't always have the parent there and able to speak up. I feel like I need to be an advocate not only for our son but for other special needs children. Were lucky that John's delays aren't as bad as some kids. I've spoken to parents that feel overwelmed on a daily basis and couldn't take on this issue of safety. I jsut want all kids to be safe.

:grouphug: From a mother with a special needs child.

Last year we went through h*** with transportation and could have used a parent like you on our side....

Our DD's bus driver wasn't restraining DD's wheelchair or she was allowing other children to do so......When we caught her she lied, and even tried to get another student to lie for her..... No one would even listen to our complaint so I filed a complaint with the state board of education and turned the bus driver in to CPS for child endangerment.Within 24 hours of being notified by CPS and a head honcho from SBOE of my complaints the Superintendent notified me that the driver had been fired and all drivers were being retrained in safety restraints.

At least 1 other parent was a witness to this and she didn't want to get involved because it might make things hard for her son. I told her she should be more worried about this driver, because If my daughters wheelchair isnt restrained and there's an accident there's a pretty good chance your son will be crushed by my DD's 350lb. wheelchair.
