When do your kids go back to school this fall?

After posting to this thread last night I went on the district website to see if the '06-'07 calendar is posted, and it is! We are scheduled to go back 8/14. There is no mention of the calendar being "tentative" or subject to change pending the outcome of the legislative session, so maybe that proposal is dead? Last year when they posted the calendar it specifically mentioned that it could change if the new law passed.

On the other hand, the other reason they wanted to change the date to after Labor Day has something to do with the harvest schedules for the migrant farm workers. I guess they don't send their kids to school until after Labor Day regardless of when school actually starts, so changing the date would eliminate some of those issues. If it really is a big problem I can't see them letting it go that easily.

In North Carolina the kids can't start back before August 25 or something like that, and they can't go later than maybe June 9. The school systems have to get in 180 days during that time period. Tourism got the law passed. However, the funny thing is that one of the tourism spots around here that wanted the law so bad for their summer help, Tweetsie Railroad, didn't win afterall. Seems that individual school systems can get exemptions, and due to all the bad winter weather, the schools around Tweetsie did.
We've had so little snow this year though, I'm wondering if the kids will really have to go till June 9.

Tuesday ,Sept 5th for most private schools in Delaware. One week earlier for public schools. Even earlier for charter schools.

For all of you who don't start school until 9/5 - That last week of August is an AWESOME time to go to Disney! Last year it was walk on everything. Walked right into Fantasmic at 8:29 and got a better seat then when we did the fantasmic dinner. The rates drop and ever year I have been able to get cheap airfare.

Can't go this year because my son starts JV soccer. That will be a tough week for me, but I already have a trip planned for November.
