When do your kids go back to school this fall?

Luxemburg-Casco, Wi goes back on 9-5-06. Just curious for those of you that go back in the beginning of August, when do your kids get out of school for the year?? Do they have lots of time off during the year???

In NJ we go back Sep 6. We get back from DL on Sep 5 hope the kids can recover quick!!!

Petrymom - In response to your question - We get out the last week in May. Except for 3 days off for Mardi Gras, I would guess that we get about the same vacation days as everybody else. However, we don't get any "patriotic" days off such as Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Presidents Day.

I imagine we will go back August 14. The state legislature has proposed making a law that says ALL public schools in Texas must wait until after Labor Day to start, but they haven't made a decision on it yet. The session on school finance starts next month. Some of the districts just north of us start sooner, and the private schools tend to start a week or so later. I guess we'll see! :confused3

Michigan just passed that law so I suspect other states will follow. What the point to making that a law?? My mother works in the michigan school district so she goes back sept. 6th.

I dont know when school starts here! I guess I better find that out since I am going to have a kindergartner this year!

They SAY it's because the state will save so much money on air conditioning if they hold the start date. It has been SPECULATED that the tourism indusrty is pushing for the later start date so the high schoolers will be around to run Six Flags and whatever until after Labor Day. The bad part of a later start date would mean all of our breaks during the year would be cut short - 2 days at Thanksgiving, one week at Christmas, and I think 3 days for Spring Break. There is a guideline in place now that says the schools can't start until mid-August BUT each district can request a waiver for the start date. The districts that started the first week of August last year had a week off in October, which I would have LOVED. We started mid-August and only had ONE day off between Labor Day and Thanksgiving week.

Of course if the lawmakers sit and fight about it long enough there is no way they can begin their new rule for the '06-'07 school year because the calendars will have to be in place.

Oklahoma City schools start August 21st. (That's why we're going to the world from August 10 - 19th.)

Monday before Labor Day here in our part of Maryland.

We go back August 6th I think! There was talk last year of starting school later for the tourist industry. It didn't pass and I was shocked! We've lived here 1 1/2 years (originally from Long Island) and I'm not used to this calendar at all!!
Our last day is May 26th and we don't get as many days off as we did on L.I.
No Jewish holidays, veterans day, election day, columbus day, no winter break. I guess it evens out because we do get like 3 weeks at Christmas - which I could happily do without! I miss the Sept. - June calendar. It's not right going to school in August, especially since it's in the 90's!

We will also be there then... But I called and our school doesnt even know which day they are going back yet... Usually the 22nd or 23rd.. sure hope it works out that way this year.... Our flight doesnt even get in until 11:50pm on Sunday the 20th.... Boy the kids sure will be tired if they start on Monday.... (just hoping for that Tuesday 22nd) ...

Our school always starts the day after Labor day....they tried to do it one week earlier but a lot of parents were used to the after labor day schedule and already planned vacations....hardly anyone showed up that first week.

We go back the Tuesday before Labor day weekend. We have a 3 day week, then a 4 day long weekend. Kinda stupid if you ask me.

August 21 for us. We are just north of Kansas City, Missouri :goodvibes We get home from WDW on August 18...

August 9 here in central KY-much better school calendar than when we lived in Ohio. Usually out sometime the week before Memorial Day, dependant on snow days.

A full fall break is given in October, plus at least 2 full weeks over Christmas-great when family is out of state. Also, the day before Thanksgiving is off, where in Ohio, we got the Monday after-everyone travels Wednesday-who travels the following Monday??

Our wonderful Gov. just passed a bill that requires our schools to go five more days each year. (which makes it 180). So, our teachers are voting to see when we start school. As it stands right now, the teachers want to go back on July 31 and the students come on August 3. We do not get a fall break. We have a full week at Thanksgiving & three weeks at Christmas. It is too hot in Alabama to start school that early in August. There was talk to making all the schools start at the same time after labor day to help with tourism, but I doubt that will ever pass.

:teacher: This year we started 8/30, this coming year hasn't been released yet (06/07).
