When do you visit the boardwalk?

Just wondering what day would be the best to visit the boardwalk. I read it is closest to Epcot, so maybe go the same day we visit Epcot? What Disney transportation should we take there? How much time should I plan to be there? Is it best to go in the evening?

Thanks.

If you go on your Epcot day, you can walk out the International Gateway (between England and France in the World Showcase) to get to the Boardwalk--it's about a 10 minute walk when you leave the gate.

As to how much time--it depends on what you want to do. The buskers are there in the evening. It's very quiet during the afternoon so it's a nice place for lunch. The shops are pretty much what you find at every resort. You could rent a surrey bike to ride around the Epcot resorts.

Frankly, I love staying at the BW but I wouldn't make a special trip just to visit it especially if my time was limited.

We're there almost every day of our trip :goodvibes

(we go to Epcot or DHS a LOT when we're in the world)

Every chance I get. :goodvibes

If you want to see the boardwalk acts, go in the evening. If you just want to ride the bikes and walk around, go in the afternoon. The bikes are available in the evening but it is crowded and hard to ride around.

That is how I feel - unless I was going to Jellyrolls with my DH, I wouldn't make a special out of the way trip to the Boardwalk. But it's easy to walk over from Epcot World Showcase just to check it out.

When my boys were younger, we would usually stay at BWV or BCV and spend time at the Boardwalk. They really enjoyed the games (especially if they would win a prize), and the entertainment. Things open up late afternoon/early evening and close around 10pm or so. It's an easy walk or boat ride from the International Gateway in EPCOT, or from DHS>

It's best just to stay there, it's an attraction in itself and you can walk to half of the WDW theme parks.

Perhaps the OP can tell us what they expect to do at BW? That would help us advise them on when/how it is best to visit there.

As far as we are concerned, nothing really there to warrant a visit.....but out thru the International Gateway........around the loop in about 45 minutes and you've seen it all. We make no point going there.like visiting other resorts...really no interest.

During the day, I can't really say that BW has much appeal. Not much special going on, at least that I have ever seen. It's an easy walk from Epcot, a bit longer from DHS, but I don't personally think there is that much worth doing. Now at night, yeah, it's a fair bit more lively with extra stuff going on. And it does look pretty darn cool across the water from Beach/Yacht clubs. Last trip wife and I walked through it 2 or 3 times, usually just because we were in the area for something else and I never really saw much worth stopping for.

Thanks everyone. I had just heard so many things about the boardwalk, so I thought it might be nice to stop by and check out.

Thanks again!

The Epcot resorts do offer some nice places to eat dinner, so if that interested you, you could also incorporate a stroll along the Boardwalk area to see the busker entertainment or spend a while at Jellyrolls.

But don't plan on doing much counter service dining because there really isn't too much. There's more in Epcot.

As to how to get there, take the bus to DHS and take the boat or walk over to the BW.

But I'm with the group who thinks that there really isn't much going on there.

Not much doing during the daytime. But, at night, the fun starts. You will find musicians, magicians or jugglers wandering around. They stop every so often to perform...draws quite a crowd most of the time. There aren't too many places to grab a quick bite to eat though. You can eat something at the Bakery or at Joe's. ESPN is there, as well as Big River Brewery. ESPN has an arcade attached to their gift shop, which the kids seem to really like. You can wander all the way around the lake, stopping in at the S/D and YC/BC along the way..then head back into Epcot if it's still open and back to your resort.

Take the boat from Epcot International Gateway or walk over from same spot. Both ways are nice, although boats can be very crowded. We went from HS by boat and boat back on a Thurs night. The ride back was ucky cause lots of people from Swan and Dolphin, and Boardwalk were going to second Fantasmic show and it was standing room only on the boat. Boardwalk was peaceful and charming, but we saw nobody doing any acts or shows. The shops are nothing out of ordinary and food was ordinary. They did have an old fashioned carnival game area and a funnel cake stand! My DH and I jumped into the photobooth there and had a blast. The border has Boardwalk on it instead of generic "Disney World" border like all the other photobooths do. Very cool lit up at night but nothing special really. I liked it but my DH felt it was a waste of our evening.

If you have the time, you should check it out. I think most people think it's worth it. And if you're into visiting resorts, there are five within walking distance. If you're going to visit just one hotel while at the BW, the walk to the S&D is beautiful.

I thought you might be interested in this article I wrote for the DIS blog on differences between the Boardwalk during the day and night.

Nice job, Dave! :thumbsup2

I think the area is really very nice if you are staying right there, great atmosphere.
How about this for a pretty sunset on the Boardwalk? :cloud9:

Okay, so I have no experience as to what's at the BW since we are making our 1st trip in Feb. But my plan is to use our "rest day" to relax at the resort, catch our breath, head over to HS for an hour or so then boat to BW to have dinner at Kouzzina's and then enjoy the BW evening. It sounds lovely and a perfect way to end a relaxy day.

We like to stop at the Swan for Karaoke then see the buskers at Boardwalk. It's something we do enjoy.
