That's another really sad thing about my town. It's sort of an unwritten rule that once kids reach a certain age (say 13 or so), they're "too old" to trick or treat. People passing out candy won't really refuse to give them candy, but the kids will get rude comments like, "Aren't you too old?" or "You're too old to be doing this!" It really bugs me!

Adults, on the other hand, I don't like to see loading up on candy. There's a certain type of adult that will do this (not meaning any disrespect, but let's just say career welfare type) and they'll go around in what you could barely call a costume and gather up bags of candy.

It is safer for some in rural communities where there is little or no street lighting or sidewalks, as here in Washington, NH. Some towns do have hours spanning from daylight to nightfall.

I hadn't really thought of that, but I think you're right! Back in the 80s our town didn't have as many street lights as they do now, so that may be one reason they started it that way. Maybe they continued it out of tradition.

But I still don't like it.
