When do YOU start packing?

This trip, I haven't started yet and probably won't until we get out of school the Tuesday after Memorial day. My life is crazy right now. Most trips, at least 3 weeks beofre.

i think i am going to pack everything but clothes this weekend. we leave in 16 days. i still need a few other little things but other than that i have everything i need.

I usually start within a week. That's because some of the things I need (namely clothes and toiletries) might still be in use. About a week or so out, I can start picking out clothes and putting them in the suitcases. I make a packing list for me and the kids about 2 weeks out and add to it over the next week as I realize things we will need. I have to be careful this time as it's a surprise trip so might not start packing until a couple days out. Fortunately there are areas of the house where we can keep them out and they don't ask questions yet!

I was just thinking the same thing. We leave in about 6 weeks and I am ready to start packing. We usually drive but will be flying this time. It is DS first flight, and we are trying to take only carry-on luggage. So my fear is fitting it all in. DS is not used to having to travel light. DH is fine. When he flies for work he only has a back pack...so no worries for him. I haven't flown since we have had DS (5 yrs ago), so I am not used to not checking luggage either. I really would like to to a trial run just to make sure I can get it all in the bags even though we need most of it between now and then. Is that crazy?

I start packing the day we leave. Since we are leaving at night. If we leave in the morning I pack the day before. I do start making a packing list months in advance. Which changes all the time. This trip is a surprise too but since we have annual passes for SW we are just telling the kids I am packing for a weekend there.

Glad to know there are other early packers!! I have two Rubbermaid bins I have been filling. One for snacks and the other for extra things like a few paper goods, a power strip, etc.

If I waited til the night before to pack, I would have the world's largest panic attack!!! LOL

I love to shop around for new tops or dresses for the trip so if I buy something new then it goes strait to the suitcase. I have been known to start packing stuff a few months before. but I get the real packing done a day or two before I leave.
