When do you start packing a suitcase

Depends on time of year and the trip. If we are going to Disney and it's winter here I may have been packed months in advance....I may be an over planner....

The day before. I don't have enough clothes to pack earlier, gotta have something to wear around town.

:cool1: We leave one week from today. :cool1: We are doing carry-ons only, one for each person.

My suitcase is already packed. I will probably do DD10's little suitcase on Monday or Tuesday, and DD13 more like Thursday or Friday. She doesn't have enough clothes that are "cool" enough to wear on a daily basis to have them all packed up. DH will throw some stuff in a backpack on Friday night. :rolleyes2

We start counting down on the calendar as soon as the trip is books (which could be 8 or 9 months out) so it only stands to reason to start packing early. We usually bring out the suitcases a month in advance. This way we know we won't forget anything (yeah, right. We are always forgetting something).

I usually have a dedicated Disney bag that I just leave stuff in to put into my luggage when the time comes because there are some things that I only use for Disney. But, aside from that, usually a few days to a week.

I don't put anything in a suitcase until the night before, or the morning of. But I do start piling things in advance. I will put beach towels, swim suits, etc, in a pile a week or so before a trip, when I think about it. If there are clothes that I want my kids to take, I will pile those up ahead of time, if they have to dress up or something. If I know I want to take a particular clothing item, that I won't be wearing before the trip, I put it in the pile.

The night before the trip, or morning of, I pack my own stuff, tell each kid, "Bring me 8 ****s, 6 bottoms, 6 undies, etc" and then pack theirs, or have them do it. If we are flying, I put more than one person's stuff in one suitcase, so its easier for me to do it.

It doesn't take long to pack, IF the clothes are clean.
