When do you pay for the dining plan if staying on DVC points?

At check-in? I ask because my sister is probably arriving before us and will check in and I assume need to present a credit card when checking in. Will they charge her credit card for the dining plan? I have a bunch of Disney gift cards that I would like to use to pay for the dining plan for the room. Can I use those to pay for the dining plan when I arrive?

On a DVC res you pay for the dining plan when you add it. You have to contact member services and add it no later than 2 days before you arrive.

Really, don't remember doing that last time but maybe I gave them a credit card number over the phone. So I would be able to pay via gift card but if I had multiple gift cards it would be giving them multiple numbers over the phone. What a pain!

You used to pay on arrival, but they changed that about 18 months ago, I would say.
