When do you "own" your reservation?

I've made a room only booking with a TA and I know I have to call her not Disney if I want to make a change. I may have to change my plans but I won't know until 2 or 3 days before my reservation starts so at that point do I still have to call my TA or is there a time when you "own" your reservation and you can call Disney direct?

Until you physically show up at the resort, the TA owns the reservation so you would have to call them for any changes.

Warning -

For room only reservations you'll lose the first night deposit if you completely cancel less than 6 days before arrival.

For package reservations, you'll lose the $200 deposit if you cancel less than 6 days before arrival....

And those rules are regardless of whether or not you book with a T/A or direct.

That is why I never use a TA. I hate the loss of control.
