When do you notify about special occasions?

Just curious after reading threads about people celebrating anniversaries, birthdays, and so on at different restaurants. When do you tell the restaurant about the event? Is it when you're making the reservation, or do they ask when you arrive?

I'm asking primarily about places like Cinderella's Royal Table and Hoop de Doo where they follow a script to varying extents.

Also, could someone's first trip count as a special occasion?

I would like to know too because our first night there is my parents anniversary!

With regards to CRT and HDDR, a LOT of people are there for a "special" occasion.

I would suggest that with THOSE specific places....you tell the Dining Reservation People. They will note on your reservation the occasion and the CM will follow a "script" during your meal. Having said that, when you check in, you should definitely remind them of the occasion to ensure it was previously noted.

If you are planning something more "elaborate" than say a personalized menu, a free dessert, or other "scripted" responses to the occasion, then you need to contact the restaurant directly to arrange those sorts of things in ADVANCE. If you want a special cake, a special meal, a special whatever, you need to contact the facility in ADVANCE, otherwise you will be receiving the "scripted" response to the occasion.

Hope that helps.

the only time i mentioned something "special" was for our honeymoon - we had breakfast at CRT - we got a great table next to the windows with a view of the carousel, but that was it - no confetti or card - oh well!

I definitely agree that you must mention it to the cast members at the resteraunt when you check-in. On previous trips during birthday celebrations we told the cast member on the reservation line and even ordered a cake for Crystal Palace once, but we did not receive our cake or any special treatment until we told our waitress/when she saw the birthday button.
