When do you need to reserve for Christmas?

Parents are now contemplating a trip over Christmas break instead of during free dining (I know, I told them they were crazy we'd have the worst crowds and premium pricing, but they want me to check it out!) They aren't willing/able to committ at this point yet, but we're looking.
Anyway, was looking around on various sites. We're a family of 7. Already gotten an idea of what it would cost on site...YIKES! Anyway, was wondering about when I would have to committ if we're looking to rent a timeshare or rent a vacation home for the week of christmas (arriving either 12/21, 12/22 or 12/23?
Thanks!

I would say start looking if you have musts.

If not take your chances and hope for the best.

I agree with Isla Bonita - if you have specific wants or needs, get started ASAP. Whilst it is not impossible to find a home closer to your dates, you do have reduced choice.

I also believe that once you have sorted out your accommodation and perhaps flights, all the rest is easy to finalise. Less stress and hassle closer to the date.

Good luck

Thanks! Other than something that would fit the 7 of us, we really don't have very many wants/needs since we'll spend very little time in the condo/townhouse/home. Especially during the crazy rush that time of year!

We finally decided on a villa for November this week. I happen to notice that many of the larger homes are filling up for Christmas already. So I think you'd want to at least narrow down your choices over the next 6 weeks. If you wait until August to reserve, you might not get what you want.

btw, I think you will want resort style accomodations for your stay, or a pool home with a games room.

You'll need to be at the WDW park turnstiles when the park opens to gain entrance. Off-site guests do get turn away during Christmas week because parks reach their capacity. So go early, then leave when you can't handle the crowds anymore... head home and enjoy the ammenities at your home, then head back the parks later in the evening when the crowds thin some. There will be extended hours that week.

I think you'll actually find quite the opposite....if you're there during Xmas it's tends to be CRAZY crowded! The best way to tour the parks is to get there early, beat the rush, do some attractions, then leave and head home around 1pm when it gets just SUPER crowded. You keep your sanity then and still have an enjoyable trip!

Being in a pool home or nice resort home would be 10x more important to me during these peak periods, because I'd plan on spending just as much time there (if not more) than in the parks. If you were in a hotel room, I'd say that would be a miserable place to be, and a true statement, in a nice pool home, the home itself is a nice vacation destination, and a VERY welcome retreat from the craziness of the parks!

We just got back from WDW yesterday, and followed this exact strategy, and I can tell you it's the way to go, and it will be even more crowded when you go over Xmas. It's sure not any fun to wait 2+ hours to go on any of the most popular attractions...it's a lot better to spend it relaxing in your private pool! Head back in the evening and do fireworks and a few more attractions, and have a much better trip!

At any rate, that being said, I'd start looking around now for a place to stay. The best places book up first, and fast! It's definitely not too late, but if you wait too much longer, or I should say, the longer you wait, the more limited your options become. My whole point above being, I wouldn't overlook the "quality" of the place you book, so many people tend to look at price only, believe me, quality matters! Being that you have time on your side still, you should be able to get both! :)

Its the time to start looking out for a vacation Rental.

Many homes with all the aminities and in the close proximity to Disney will be filled in advance for the Christmas period.

I have booked the rental home for my next vacation from this website.

springvacationrentals.com

they have wide variety of homes to choose from.

all the best.

I booked the home we're in for Christmas in late January. Get hopping on it now!

Thanks for all the feedback! I actually found one via vrbo....three bedroom townhouse in Terra Verde 12/22-12/29. Looks great and the price was even better! WDW here we come!
