When do you leave for your honeymoon?

Hey all, this is the first question of what I'm sure is a long stream over the next year and a half. My fiance has delegated me to planning the honeymoon since we both know that if I get too involved with the actual wedding then we may be jeopardizing the entire operation :lmao:

My questions is: For those getting married in WDW and are planning a resort or international honeymoon soon after, when do you plan on leaving? Right after the wedding or do you plan on going home first to pack and prepare before leaving?

Our situation is this. We live just outside of Toronto and plan on getting married in WDW in May or July of '09. We plan on honeymooning in Japan (mostly to visit Tokyo Disney :thumbsup2) with a stop over first in Los Angeles to visit Disneyland since we have to fly out of LAX anyways to get the cheapest fare to Japan. Would we be crazy to plan flying straight out of Orlando to LA to kick off our honeymoon? Or would it make more sense to fly home first to get things settled and then start off our honeymoon? We only plan on being down in WDW for 3-4 days tops for the wedding so the extra packing wouldn't be all that terrible would it?

Thanks so much!

Hello Fellow Canadian!

I am getting married in disney in May 2008, and we wanted to do a disney cruise, however the ones that we wanted stop at the begining of May (we aren't getting married til the end) so I told DF he gets to plan it, but I dont think it will be international, just cause we are both college students, finishing just before the wedding, and dont have too much money.

We are planning on our honeymoon right after, getting married on a friday, hopefully gone on honeymoon by monday.

I would say, if you can afford it, do it all at once. Because your wedding won't be relaxing (nothing personal, its just that I don't think a wedding can be) and then going home and dealing with all sorts of wedding stuff after wont be either, you will probably want a break. Have fun in Japan. That sounds like fun.

I would really like to go to EuroDisney. I think that would be a great honeymoon.

We were married on a Thursday and had 3 days after the wedding for a Disneymoon before our cruise. We planned to drive from Disney to Ft. Lauderdale, one night at a beach hotel, then leave on the cruise the next day. But, Hurricane Wilma had other ideas and our cruise was canceled. We were switched to a different cruise out of Port Canaveral which left us with one night with nowhere to go. We tried to extend our Disney hotel by one night but were not able to do that. Since we live 1.5 hours from Disney we just drove home and that forced "break" in our honeymoon depressed me. It was fine once we headed out for the cruise, I was back in honeymoon-mode, but I really didn't like the day at home. We didn't tell anyone we were there because we were still on our honeymoon and wanted to be alone, not bombarded with friends and family just yet. As for clothes and packing, yeah, I guess the day at home was good in that I got to do laundry, but I had planned to do laundry at the hotel anyway. All Disney resorts have laundry facilities, so that really didn't matter.

If the timing works, go for it, and go straight from the wedding to the honeymoon, I think it's more romantic that way!
