When do you go on Grizzly River Run?

Whenever I can. LOVE this ride. My personal favorite DCA is Grizzly River Run. I was so excited when DD was finally tall enough to ride with me. I can't wait until the other two are so we don't have to swap on the ride. My favorite is to ride at a time when the lines are short (early evening if it's not a hot, hot summer day) and ride the ride multiple times because it's just so much fun.

If you're going in the summer I wouldn't worry about getting wet. It's hot out and you'll dry off quickly. I suggest wearing flip flops and leaving your bag in one of the nearby lockers. It's not fun to walk with soggy feet. The lines get long in the hot afternoon, so get a FP.

pretty much anytime, haha. if it's super hot and we need to cool off quick, we do single rider- it's basically a walk on. if it's during a cooler time of year, we try to do it early in the day so we have time to dry off before it gets too chilly. you really never know how soaked you'll be at the end of the ride and there's no safe seat. sometimes i'm totally drenched and sometimes i walk away with just a few (big) drops on me.

Right there with you. If we do it on a day we aren't going to the pool right after, or if it is remotely chilly-- we all use ponchos. Last time I still wound up getting wet--my hood flipped back when I was on the side that went backwards down a hill, and then the water poured down my poncho neck!

Enjoying this thread, it's making me smile to remember the ride! We rode with garbage bags with holes for arms and head (lame) ponchos (ineffective) and I even tried full on cheap poncho and a smaller bag for my feet to keep my shoes dry. Did. Not. Work. At. All. Still got soaked. And I felt dumb for fumbling around trying to get the restraints buckled around the poncho, then getting the bag situated over my shoes (never really worked) and then when I put the hood up and pulled the drawstring, I'm sure I looked even more idiotic and also my peripheral vision was kinda messed up.

So next time I'm going to bring cheap flip flips to switch into (maybe even those paper thin throwaway kind they use for pedicures) and go when it's hot, or just before heading back for a break. Because you WILL get very wet if not drenched! Can you say "chafing?" LOL

That ride is so awesome! It was hilarious when some of our family who had never been on before went for the first time. They had no idea what to expect! We had such a hard time breathing we were laughing so hard!

Most of the time we don't have enough people to take up a whole raft, so a type of camaraderie between us and the people they place in our boat is usually established. We place bets on which party is going to get wetter and lots of laughs ensue during the ride. It's one of the best rides at the resort!

Anyway, we always bring ponchos with us if we are heading to California Adventure for part of the day. It's almost inevitable that we will end up on GRR, so we come prepared. Sometimes, though, when we park hop randomly we aren't as prepared. If we come across GRR and want to ride, we just suck it up and realize that we're going to be walking around the park soaking wet. If we plan on going on the ride multiple times, we wait until we're going to take a break back at the hotel and then ride as many times as we can.

We ride right before the midday break or at the end of the night IF we are staying on property. If we aren't at the GCV then we will ride during the hottest part of the day.

My son loves this ride too so we probably rode it 50+ times the last time we were there. It was very entertaining because he would greet the others in the boat and give pointers. We especially loved it at night because the CM's would let us stay on for 3-4 consecutive rides since everyone else was watching WOC.

As someone pointed out just above, this is one of the best rides to meet other park guests. Every time I've ridden it, we've gotten to talk to and meet the other riders. Once, it was a group of Canadian men and they were hilarious. First time riders are also fun to ride with. And like mentioned above, if you can convince the CMs to let you go around again without getting off, it's just icing on the cake! (This only happens at night when there is no line, though!)

I am a big wussie! I bring cheap dollar store ponchos for myself and we tend to ride right before afternoon break or at the very end of the night while WOC is going on. My boys favorite thing is to play in Redwood Creek during WOC and then do GRR like 10x!

Depends on the time of the year. We always try for Mid-Day. In the summer I just put on a poncho and not worry about it too much. In the Fall/Winter I take off my jacket/sweatshirt and put in in a locker with my phone, etc., put a Poncho on and hoe for the best. If it is TOO cold I just skip it.

I wear a ponchos for Splash Mountain too. I really enjoy Splash just not the being wet the rest of the day.

I barely got wet on the ride, but my rear-end and feet sure did. Virtually ALL seats are wet when you get in, as well as the bottom of the tubes (virtually impossible not to get your feet wet to some degree). We bring flip flops in our day bag for everyone for this & Splash mountain & the Bug's Land Splash pad. We NEVER leave the parks for a break (even though we stay across the street). For the kids, each gets 1 change of day clothes. We'll do Splash/GRR, they get the water rides done, then they change clothes. mom & dad suck it up & walk around the parks damp. If it isn't terribly warm or sunny, hubby won't ride it so he doesn't have to walk around wet. I buy ripstop shorts/capris from Eddie Bauer (BEST SHORTS/CAPRIS EVER), and they dry pretty quickly, even at dusk!

You'll obviously dry faster in warmer/sunny weather, but then the lines are longer. We did splash as our last ride in February at 11pm, 80 during the day, about 55 at night. That was one of the coldest walks back to our hotel I've ever had! I had taken off my sweater so at least that would stay dry - so cold on the ride - the water and the A/C blasting inside the ride ... brrrr. At least GRR gets that added warmth of natural sunlight!

We go at the hottest part of the day. We make sure to wear quick drying clothing on our DCA day and bring flip flops. We leave our socks, tennis shoes, sweatshirts, etc. in the lockers.

LOL! Hard to avoid getting wet on this one. Sitting in the back on Splash works most of the time, but GRR spins, so it's hard to know who will get the wetest.

I like to pack sandals that I carry in a backpack (they are light and dont take a lot of room) so I can take my shoes and socks off before riding this ride. I dont mind my clothes getting wet because on hot days they dry rather quickly anyway but I cant stand wet soggy shoes and socks. So as long as I can pack away my shoes and socks to keep them dry I will go on this ride any time. Of course the hottest parts of the day are also the busiest for this ride so in the morning and evenings is best if you are avoiding lines.

Yeah, riding at night is the best! Last trip, my family was staying in GCH. We put the kids down to bed and had about 15 minutes until DCA closed. Grandma stayed behind while the rest of us rushed down to try GRR at night. We wanted to ride it again but the CM made us get off, so we were running back to the start of the line and barely got on a 2nd time. Despite having rode it 30 seconds earlier, there were still so many surprises because it was dark. Loved it.

We just got back from our trip and rode it with ponchos. If you don't want to get too wet sit in an inside seat. If you want to get soaked sit in the seats near the spot where you exit. Our ponchos were amazing and we came off the ride totally dry. Which was awesome since we were there on a cloudy day with a long drive back to Utah after the ride.
