When do you give up on a waitlist?

I've waitlisted a BCV studio and a BWV pool/garden studio for August 30th-Sept 8th. I was wondering how long should I give the waitlist until I cancel it and book a cash room? 30 days out ? 60 days out? thanks

Do you have something else booked on points for the same time? If not and it's really important that you stay at BWV or BCV at that time, you should book a cash reservation. Stay on the waitlist and if the waitlist comes through then cancel the cash reservation. Cash reservation cancellation policy is 48 hours (I think).

You can stay on a waitlist until 7 days prior to check-in. Problem is if the points difference is less you run the risk of having points go into holding. If that's an issue then the 31 day waitlist is what you want to do.

We always stay on the wait list right up to 7 days

But we have another reservation on points at a different resort
Modify the wait list to cancel the points reservation you would currently hold if the wait list comes thru
Prev poster already mentioned possible holding points if its less points.

Thanks guys. I already have a 1 be std view at BWV booked for sept 1st-8th. I just want to switch to a studio and add days. The points are less at the studio than the 1 bedroom.

I'm going to tell you what I would do if it were me...

I just looked at ms and bwv garden/pool view studio is available for 6 nights in a row of your stay.

checkin monday sept 2 - checkout sunday sept 8.

I would take those 6 nights and then - cancel my bwv studio waitlist and open a waitlist for the 3 nights aug 30 thru sept 1 at bwv garden/pool studio

I would leave the second waitlist at bcv studio as it is.

( because I would lose my place in the waitlist line when I cancel the 8 night waitlist - the new waitlist starts at the bottom of the line - I personally would take the bump down in the waitlist line to exchange an 9 night waitlist to a 3 night)

If you need to bank the extra points, you'll want to cancel the waitlist before your banking deadline.

People cancel just before their 30 day mark all the time. So there's a chance. We usually wait till 7 days out but then call every day after if we really want something else. The post on the 6 days is good advice.
