When do you bank?

I'm past the point where I can bank all my points,

We've been able to book up to 100% of our points at any time prior to our banking deadline for quite some years now - in fact, it's been so long that I'm sure many here will be surprised to know that we were ever restricted. I can't remember the details (used to have them posted at the top of my spreadsheet, but I deleted them), but basically we could bank 100% of our points at the start of our UY, but the percentage dropped as the year went on, and I think if we waited until the end of our banking window we could only bank, what, 30% of our total points?

Almost all of our reservations have used some banked points (I know, people will say that is not wise), so I usually bank our points when I make the reservation.

Interesting - didn't even know that - I've been banking that way for so long that I never bothered to see if they changed the rule. After nearly 30 years, I'm definitely used to doing it that way, so likely not to change!

I used to wait until the last minute. But I figure that's cutting it too close, so now I do it about 5 minutes before the deadline, give or take a few minutes.

Well, if that happens, it gives me an excuse to take a vacation in the next four months.

I typically wait until a couple weeks before the deadline. It never happens but I'm always hopeful that a last-minute trip will pop-up.

Banking? That would assume I ever have points left!

Seriously though - I typically bank 1-2 months before the banking window. We pretty rarely book "last minute" (under 6 months) and I am super paranoid about forgetting even though I have it set in my calendar. So for my December UY will usually bank sometime in June, and for the February use year sometime in August.

It’s important to remember that you don’t have to bank all of your points at once and you can do banking several times until all of your eligible points are banked. For example, let’s say you want to book something for next year, but you want to use some points from this use year first. Just bank them and then make your reservation. You can still go back and bank more points in the future until your banking deadline.

Typically, we use all of our points each use year. The only points being banked are just a handful not enough to book anything so it’s not a huge deal for us. We usually wait until the day of the banking deadline to bank points.
