When do unused FastPasses expire?

We are arriving at Orlando around noon in a few weeks. We were planning on heading over to Epcot after checkin and I have a fastpass for FEA at 5pm and then dinner reservations at 6 pm. I put in for two “dummy” fastpasses for early that morning in the hopes that they will expire when I don’t show — and that I can score a Soarin or Test Track fastpass as my fourth after dinner.
Will this strategy work? Or will i not be allowed a fourth fastpass if I don’t check-in for all three beforehand

Yes, your "dummy" FP+ will just expire, and hopefully disappear from MDE, if they are not used. (A few people have had problems with them not disappearing, but those are exceptions.) If you let the other two expire and use your FEA FP+, you can check for a fourth FP+ as soon as you've tapped into FEA.

I had two fastpasses that I didn’t use because I was in standby lines. They did not disappear from “My Plans” after the FP time expired, but when I was finished with my first three FP, I was able to make a 4th even though those were still showing. After I made the 4th, they finally disappeared. This was in HS in January.
