Looking to do a trip during the Christmas season. How long does Disney keep the decorations up?? Are they down the day after Christmas? Inquiring minds want to book a trip!!!!

They keep the lights up at least thru the Sunday after New Years.
Generally speaking, I think the resort decorations tend to be the first to be taken down.

We've been there during the first week in January and the lights were still up.

You will see some decorations start to disappear around Jan. 1st - not big things, little wreaths etc. Most of the decorations stay up as others have said. But sometimes it can be surprising when something big suddenly disappears - for example, we were staying at VWL through 1/5/08. When we went to bed late on Jan. 4th, all of the resort and hotel Christmas decorations were still up. When we woke up on the 5th, everything was gone, even that huge tree in the WL lobby!

thanks all...I saw a Christmas special about the WDW decorations a couple of years ago...they use something like seven miles of garland alone! Made me want to go immediately. Now that we have the DVC and everyone talking about it here, I hope we can make it happen if not this year then next. And if that means pushing into the first week of January that's cool...we celebrate Christmas January 7th so the "magic" still has magic left! :cloud9:

2 year ago we arrived @ WDW on Jan 18th and everything was still up. But by the end of our 5 day stay they were starting to take them down.

They were all down for our trip MLK weekend a few years ago. I was bummed as I was hoping to see some of the decorations.

January 6th seems to be the right neighborhood; I've been in WDW for the last three marathon weekends. In '06 and '07 when the race was the 6th and 7th, the decs were still up. THis year when the race was pushed back to the 10-14th, no decorations nor Osbourne lights.

Go as soon as you can

It seems every year less and less is put up.

I went about 5 years in a row that very first week in January (a couple times I checked in on New Year's Day) and you know what I always found out? There's no consistency from year to year on how long the lights stay up. As a CM told me, it depends on when they get "round 'tuit". One year, things came down in Epcot January 2; another year, same decorations, January 7; then January 4th. And what amazed me was that everything was completed overnight, never any signs of "in progress" work. One night we left Epcot after Illuminations, went thru the BWV lobby to all the decorations up. Next morning, everything at BWV was taken down and everything was back to normal. In Epcot, where there'd previously been a tree, not only was the tree gone, but everything was replanted-no "empty" spots.

They are amazing with getting things done...we cruised a few years ago over Thanksgiving and stopped twice at Castaway Cay, once before and once after Thanksgiving. First stop...normal island. Second stop...Christmas island!

This year we watched the lobby carpet at POR being removed and replaced...it was 1130ish at nite. Had I not seen it happen, I never would have known come morning!
