When do the crowds start picking up for spring break?

We are thinking about doing a long weekend in March. Probably around March 10. When do the crowds start picking up due to spring break? We always go in the summer. We have never been in the spring, so I am clueless. I did notice the rates for the resorts at this time are "peak rates". So that might be an indication of the crowds. Any info would be appreciated. :sunny:

I'd love to hear opinions on this as well.

I am going around this time as well. I looked at the park hours and they increase greatly around March 11-12 which is a Saturday and Sunday. Spectromagic and Fanstamic both get second showings. I guess I should prepare for the crowds!

We're going March 12-19th and all signs are suggesting that it is going to be very crowded. As Emilymad pointed out the park hours increase greatly beginning March 11th and 12th. I tried to book a room at the Dolphin for our stay and it's full. Also, I tried to book a reasonable flight out of Oklahoma City and ended paying a ridiculous fare because the flights are so booked. I even tried flying out of Dallas and had no luck finding a reasonable flight. I have a feeling it will be very crowded. Oh well, we'll be at Disney, so we'll just hunker down and have a great time!

We will be there on March 10- March 14 for the All-star cheer comp. I would expect there to be large crows at that time. We will be watching DD(13) compete and trying to sneak a few hours at the parks each day. Really couldn't tell you what I am more excited about...watching our teams perform or seeing Mickey. :teeth: :cheer2:

We will be there the 10-18 for our spring break. My 14 year old son will be thrilled that there is a cheerleading competition going on.....ROTFLOL!

At least Easter in is April this year. Hopefully March will have lighter crowds because of that.

Hopefully...

What do you think the crowds will be like for Spring Break in March as opposed to Easter in April. We are planning on going in April for Easter. I am sure it will be crowded. Would love it if most of the people go in March.

We'll be there March 14-19...not due to Spring Break because my son's Spring Break is actually the next week, but dh will be at WDW for the big Children's Miracle Network conference beginning on March 15.

We went during this same week in 2003 and didn't encounter crazy crowds. DH and DD went last year at the same time for the same conference and didn't have any problems either. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that such good luck continues.

We are going March 5-11. I just booked Ohana's and Cirque without any problems. I thought that I would not have a chance but I had many options for both. Maybe the 5th-11th won't be as crazy as I thought. Or maybe I am wrong..... :scared1:

Look at the park closing times. A good rule of thumb is that the later they stay open, the more people they expect.

There will be alot of us Canadians there during this time as it is our spring break in Ontario. I'm not sure about the rest of Canada but suspect it is a common time for spring break. Actually we call it March break (not very spring like around here). The unofficial guide has crowd levels at 8 for most of the week.

Most of TX has spring break either the first or second full week of March. We've Been 2 other years at that time and will be there again this year. I agree that it's crowded, but not insane.

Suzanne, was Easter in March those two years?

No. We were there in '02 & '04. Like I mentioned, it was busy, especially MK, but by using FP and being at the parks early, we were able to get lots done.

I'm originally from the Houston area. Now a West Texas transplant...I sure miss the moisture!!

There was another post about this, I think on the resorts forum. They said that the second and third week of March were spring breaks for a couple of the Florida counties around Orlando, so to expect weekend crowds to be high.

Texas is strange like that. It's like three different states all rolled into one. Flat, piney woods, dry and desert-like and then rolling hill and beautiful rivers... not in that order, of course. :teeth:

My daughter is fixing to transfer to Tech, so she'll be getting a taste of a different climate soon!

We're in Lubbock and haven't had rain in over 100 days. Of course, now we're expecting snow this weekend after a high of 74 today.

I'm with you as I'm going in April too.

From what I have read it seems like the crowds will be spread out from early March to mid April. A lot of schools are changing vacation times. I remember a while back some one did a poll here and the vacations were pretty spread out. We also have to contend with college breaks. Five years ago we went spring break and the crowds were bearable.

The second week of March is usually when crowds pick up. A lot of the schools in Texas, Mississippi, and other areas across the south have spring break at that time.

We have gone during the 2nd week of March twice (02,04) and they did have longer hours and crowds were bigger. Don't let that bother you just plan to be flexible and you will have a great time.
