When do IGT,OGT’s typically get offered?

I would like to request people not just toss acronyms in these discussions - it's like reading a foreign language maybe use the entire word One time and then the acronym after that? I've done a couple Disney cruises, but still have no idea what this thread was about without going and looking up multiple acronyms Thank you for your consideration.

When they assign the VGT etc. rooms do they consider:

Your status
Or
How you booked

When doling out the nicer rooms?

I don’t think so. In the last year all of my cruises have been IGTs. I’ve been given 11C (twice), 10B (once, but then got moved day of cruise due to issues with room into a 9C) and 10A. I always book direct with DCL.

However I’m not likely their prime candidate for upgrading since my most commonly booked room type is the cheapest one on the ship.

You can just ask when an acronym is posted that you don't know. Save yourself some time trying to look it up/figure it out. That's how many of us learned them.

Have you ever seen a gt rate get even lower in price? Looking at over Christmas and oceanview has a gt rate, but it’s still crazy expensive. I was wondering if it would go any lower.

If you ask, I'm sure folks would be glad to explain anything confusing on any thread. There are a lot of acronyms on DISboards! In this thread:

IGT = Interior Guarantee, a discounted booking offering with restrictions
OGT = Oceanview Guarantee, a discounted booking offering with restrictions
PIF = pay-in-full date
DCL = Disney Cruise Line
GTY = guarantee, a booking offering that is not discounted but offered by DCL after a certain percentage of staterooms have been booked
VGT = Verandah Guarantee, a discounted booking offering with restrictions
*GT = short-hand for IGT, OGT and VGT

Sometimes it gets pulled and re-offered at a different price point, though I'm not sure how often it goes lower. Booking a cruise really just comes down to deciding if you are OK with the price. If so, book and stop looking for it to go lower. If not, don't book and keep an eye out to see if a better offer comes along. There's almost always somebody who managed to get a "better" deal than what you paid -- comparable staterooms on a cruise can be sold for a wide range of fares. Kind of like the person sitting next to you on an airplane likely paid a different fare than you.

Our cruise next month had *GT rates pop up in May. It was before my PIF date so I cancelled my original reservation and switched to a VGT. Saved us $1300 and we got our room assignment a couple weeks ago in a perfect midship deck 10 balcony!

We had two cruises (B2B) that we cancelled and rebooked (after PIF) because the VGT rate was good enough that we saved money. And we went from an oceanview to a verandah.
