If I want to make a ressie at exactly 11 months, can I pay for one of the weekend days with cash? Will the discounted rooms be avaiable then?

TIA,
Mike

I tried to do this w/ a room at VB last Friday w/ MS. I was told that I should be able to do it, but that they could not get the system to recognize it because 08 prices are not final yet.

I made ressies at 11 months using member's cash (DVC discounted rooms), I didn't know that you can do this even at a non-home resort.

So you're saying that they will not book a cash ressie until the new rates are posted?
I've heard of others booking a room based on 2007 rates and were told that the total would be adjusted when teh 08 rates were released. I guess MS will not do the same?

It may also be a VB thing since they are not on-property. MS said "they were working on the rates" right now and to keep calling back to check.

Until CRO sets its cash rates for 2008, there won't be any member discount rates (since it is a discount off of CRO rack as I understand it). Even then, cash rates but not discount rates may be available. Discount rates are based on projected sell out of the resort for the time period and/or member exchange activity.

i am confused. are you saying that you can book somewhere at 11 months that is not your home resort? if this is true and you can book cash at 11 months, then you can change to points at 7 months if available. i think i must be misunderstanding bc then everyone would do this.

Cash rooms are from different inventory. They are also availiable when no points rooms are available alot of the time. So, you could never switch an existing reservation to a points room, but you could reserve cash as a back-up and try to see if there's DVC point inventory availible later - but this would only be an advantage if you were happy paying cash for the stay. It does not give you any advantage toward getting DVC point inventory rooms when they open.

Exactly! The cash rooms come from a different "pot". But we paid cash at 11 months at HHI, so that we could be sure to have a room there. At 7 months, there were rooms available on points for only 3 of the nights, but we don't mind paying cash for the rest of the nights. We did this last year, too, and they just link all the ressies together so that we never had to switch rooms. Once there, we couldn't distinguish "cash" nights from "points" nights.

and dont forget the small print..... Boardwalk Views and and VB Cottages cannot be booked on cash.

I have learned so much from the folks on this board! Thank you!
I didn't even know you could get a cash discount as a DVC member. We are new owners at AKV and we're having some Developer point issues. A cash discount may be our answer. Could someone tell me how much is the discount and does it apply to any room on property?
Thank you,
Ann

That's not entirely true...I have booked VB BC on cash before (not with the DVC discount) but at rack.

First, I tried to book one night at the cash rate to go along with my points ressie. I was told by MS that I couldn't book a cash night (neither discounted nor rack rate) until the 2008 rates were released.

Today I called back to check on the 2008 rates and I was allowed to book a cash night for my stay (even though the 08 rates aren't yet out). I gave my cc# and received a confirmation #. I was told that the rate would be adjusted based on the actual 2008 rate and that I could check back later to see if the discounted rate was available.

SO my questions are...

Do I have a real reservation? Or are they just assuming that cash inventory will be available?
Why did one person say they couldn't do it and another just did it?
Is this just the difference in MS training?
Can I trust what MS tells me, or should I always call back to reconfirm what I'm told?

Help me clear up my confusion.

I think I just booked a day in a BC with a member discount to extend our stay by a day in April (10 months out). (I may cancel, depending on air fare/times and budget, but was totally surprised that it was available and grabbed it!)

I say think because although the CM did state that the price was with a discount (no tax) she did not mention it was using 2007 prices. The prices seemed off. I now realize the 2008 rates are not out and she was most likely using the highest season of 2007. I need to squeeze in a time to call and confirm this.

The cash discount for DVC members is 25% off the rack rate. You must book through MS to get it (not CRO/WDWTC). The discount is only available at the DVC resorts.

As already posted, it is subject to availability and the inventory of cash rooms is completely separate from the inventory for points rooms.
