When do DDP credits become active?

We are new to the DDP for this trip. I understand that the credits expire at midnight on check-out date, but when do the credits become available for use? Is it upon check-in? The arrival day? Is there any difference if you use online check-in vs checking in at the resort? TIA!

Day of check-in as soon as you arrive and want to use them if you do online check-in. Otherwise, they will be active as soon as you check in at the front desk of your resort.

^^Several years ago we actually bumped up our flight by about 12 hours to avoid an incoming snow storm.
We arrived at the Poly via the Magical Express at about 1:00 am. We just assumed we'd have to snooze in the lobby until morning time. Before we thought "hey lets just see if they have a room ready" we realized our meal plan was already showing and we were able to grab some food at Captain Hooks using snack credits instead of paying out of pocket.

Of course then we got lucky and they had one room open. We had 7 people but 2 bed and a floor were much better than a lobby for a night.
