When did you stop doing Easter Baskets?

If you do/did them for your kids, when did you stop?

It feels weird making an Easter Basket for a nearly 17 year old boy...

Does anyone just do one big "family" basket? Put a bunch of everyone's favorite candy in there, and maybe a gift card or two for each kid? We most likely won't be home anyway - we have two out of state college visits for DS16 set up for 4/14 and then we will just spend Easter there. And bunnies don't lay eggs, so who thought up Easter Egg hunts in the first place!!?

Does anyone do any alternatives to Easter Baskets once the kids get older?

My son is 17 and still gets an Easter basket. Now that he's older I usually fill it with candy, a few bucks, food gift cards or an xbox gift card. I reuse the same basket he's had since a kid. A personalized soft basket I got from Pottery Barn. They both still look forward to their baskets on Easter morning.

I stopped with the individual baskets when my daughters were young teens. After that we just had one family basket. Just candy; we never gave any gifts for Easter.

We stopped filled Christmas stockings at the same time. We still hung them up, but they were merely decor.

This year. The boy has moved out on his own, and both kids informed me that it was time for the baskets to stop.

I won't lie... I'm going to miss this tradition! I'll probably still give them both something small (like an Easter themed tea for my daughter (21) or some specialty hot sauce for my son (19), since neither of them like chocolate bunnies).

My kids are 17, 15, & 7, & we haven't stopped yet!

In the past, instead of baskets, I have filled new duffel bags, beach bags, & even those cloth storage cubes. A couple of years ago, I filled nylon mesh swim bags.

We've never done a lot of candy - besides Peeps & Cadbury Eggs, of course! Instead, we typically do springy/summery items - new swimsuits, beach towels, sunglasses, flipflops, packets of seeds for planting, bubbles (when they were younger), & sidewalk chalk (when they were younger), etc. I also always include a new book. Last year, each one got a new card game. When they were younger, their baskets usually had a new stuffed animal too - our youngest still gets one.

My parents did a basket for me until I moved out when I got married - after I got older, it was always some candy & little trinket or two. After DH & I got married, mom did (& still does) a joint little Easter gift for us with some candy & maybe something like a spring dish towel or candle. (She knows that DH loves Cadbury Eggs, so our candy is normally a small package of Cadbury Eggs for him while the dish towel or candle is for me. LOL!)

My kids are 24,21.
I do Easter baskets and have changed their contents according to their age.
I still do Christmas stockings.
I send a card and an oversized version of their fav candy for Valentine's Day.
I send a card and a funny t shirt for St. Patrick's Day
They love receiving it. I love sending it.

Also, with regards to the origins of the Easter egg hunt...

The egg was a pre-Christian symbol of springtime. Early Christians associated it with Christ's resurrection, and by the 17th century, searching for the eggs was said to be like searching for Christ in his tomb.

As for the Easter Bunny, he was originally a German Lutheran Santa-like figure who judged whether children were good or bad, and brought them toys. This hare was bringing eggs to children as early as the mid 1600's, along with toys and sweet treats.

My boys are still on the younger side, so I'm not sure if/when I'll stop.

I'm 44 and my mother still gives us Easter gifts, but instead of a basket, my sister and I will get Easter lilies or some other type of flower. Prior to that/after she stopped the baskets, she just gave us a bag with candy or just one large chocolate bunny.

My kids are 28, 27, and 24. They each are getting a small basket with a little bit of candy. I also dropped a couple of hundred each on new spring clothes and flip flops for them. I still love buying stuff for them and don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

8th grade. Starting in high school, we still had candy and Easter eggs, but no baskets.

I stopped a few years ago. We're always out of town on Easter so I just stopped. My sister still makes baskets for my kids though - lol. Oh and my mom still buys me a big box of peeps every year even though I tell her every year that i don't like them.

Still doing it! Boys are 21,19,17. It's mostly candy, and always has been. I do put $10 in a plastic egg in each basket. If the girlfriends are coming, I make them a small one too.
