When did you get your best rental rate?

I check the car rental rates 3x a day and I am finding that they are just going up as my date gets closer not down like I would have thought. When did YOU get your best rate? Is there hope of it going down? I locked in with Thrifty a few weeks ago and now it is $200 more than what I got, I REALLY liked renting with National. Loved walking out into the lot but it looks like that is not in the cards this year.. Do you think National or Alamo will go below 235.60 for 9 day Mini Van rental.. I am going December 6-15. I know they were lower in the spring but it does not seem that low right now.

Help please.. going a bit insane here trying to get a good rate!

I booked a cheap one for a weekend a few months ago on National. I can't even come close now (weekend for $61)

I book early then try to beat it...... seems to work best.

That's a pretty good rate for a minivan in high season.

Booked a couple of months ago with Alamo for Thanksgiving week with the Walmart code - can't get close to the rate I got now, but I keep checking.
