When did you buy your airline tix?

Due to the FT pkg - I just decided to go back down w/my 13 y.o. son. Last May 2002 our tix from Philly on USAir were $323.00 for both, but I think I bought them in early January 2002. This time around, the flights w/the same times, etc. are $875.00 for both! Spirit Air is $506.00 & I'm going to try them this time.

My question is what has been your experience in buying tickets? Think I should wait until after Memorial Day hoping prices go down or should just go on & buy them? I suppose if the prices go down, I can always get some sort of voucher for the difference - right?

Any help, as always, is very much appreciated.

Bumping up to know also. I am considering buying our tickets when they (hopefully) come on sale 3-4 months prior.

I bought my ticket Feb 2 for my December trip -- prices had gone down quite a bit, so decided to bite the bullet when I got a price I thought was good - $165.00 r/t from New Orleans to Orlando -- then I stopped looking -- afraid I'd see one for $99!! LOL (that's usually the story of my life, but if I don't know about it, it doesn't hurt me)! Right?

I purchased our tickets in April for our upcoming August trip. I got a great deal on Delta, 105/person RT to MCO from LGA. With tax and fees the total for 4 RT Tix were $550. I started looking in January and tried Orbitz, Travelocity and all of the airline sites directly everyday until I found this one....took me about 3.5 months.

I also buy way ahead of time - I bought our January flights last month. I can't have that hanging over my head. As soon as I see a fair price I buy and then forget about it. Not that I'm rich, but I go crazy waiting for a really low bargain!

Bought ours in early Oct for our Aug trip. Yes, got a decent rate, but so far they've cancelled 2 flights on me and changed times twice. Booking early can cause you some headaches!!!
