when did you allow makeup

In 7th grade DD could wear light eyeshadow, mascara(has long pretty lashes and does not use much, if any), blush, and a little lip color.

She is in 9th grade now and has never worn foundation. Does not need it. She is blessed with beautiful even toned porcelain skin and it does not break out. She gets a lot of comments on her pretty skin, so no need for foundation yet. She does have some matte compact powder should she get shiny.

I have never disallowed dd (9) to wear makeup. On occasion she gets in the mood to wear lip gloss and mineral blush to school, she likes flavored lip smackers or my stuff. She also likes glitter powder. She was in dance from age 4-8 and wore full makeup for recitals & performances, it was no biggie to her. She loves wearing nail polish and has for years. She was 4 when she got her first mani/pedi.

i have never told DD she couldn't wear makeup, but she's 12 and has no desire too yet. I'll put light makeup on her for special occasions (such as next week's valentine's dance) and she wears it much heavier for her dance recital each june, but that's it. some girls in her class wear it (6th grade) and she thinks they look like clowns (and they do, to be honest, lol). when she asks for it, i'll buy it for her. i didn't wear makeup until 8th grade, and even then, my mom only gave in and let me wear it because it was a birthday gift from my aunt in michigan (we're in alabama).

My DD13 has been able to wear lip gloss whenever since i don't consider that make-up but she got a kit of make-up for her 13th birthday and she can wear whatever she wants as long as it's not over done. She doesn't have time most mornings to put it on anyways and she already looks older than her age anyways.

DD started showing interest in 7th grade. She was sneaking in my make up drawerr. I am so against sharing make up even with my own child. In her stocking that Christmas she had brown mascara and face powder. She didn't wear it every day but it did give her something when she wanted to. She is 15 now and wears makeup about 3-4 days/week. Some days she just doesn't feel like it.

I too tell her constantly how pretty she is without make up especially when she applies too much. I have learned that instead of telling her its 'too much' that if I say 'you look so pretty without all that' in a non condescending way it works.

I got my first makeup when I started my period. I had called my mum in the morning when it happened and she came home with all the necessary girl things plus a makeup case filled with stuff like cosmetics and bubble bath. I got some lip glosses, some light eye shadows, a pale blush, and some mascara. Then we sat all night and my mum taught me how to apply it.

I love this!!! If I have a daughter I hope I remember this.

I was allowed to start wearing makeup when I started 7th grade.

I started wearing makeup in 8th or 9th grade. I was goth, so I started out with heavy black eyeliner, dark eye shadow, and black lipstick!! Nowadays (24), I've nixed the lipstick, but still wear heavy black eyeliner and bright colourful eye shadow (think pigments from MAC).

Since 6th grade is middle school here, our dd's wore clear mascara, Cliniques natural color blush (it's barely peachy) and light lip gloss and a natural eye shadow. It's key that they feel like they "fit in" and not "left out", and you don't ever want them going behind your back and putting it on at school and taking it off before they come home...................

To me, this is not real critical as long as it's done tastefully (and it will be if you take them to the Clinique counter)

I never had a set age...so it was pretty much when they wanted to and it was around 7th or 8th grade for them.

The only thing I told them was NEVER to use blue eyeshadow. They all use browns, coppers, pinks and lighter shades. Now that they all buy their own they tend to use Mac. My youngest just bought herself the Bare Minerals and loves it.

I think my dd was around 12 when she started to wear make up but it was mainly when she had cheer competition...now that she is 16 she wears is daily..however I taught her how to use and apply and she uses everyday minerals so it is very natural...

I would be careful of the period thing b/c I know for me and dd we didn't start till we were 15 late bloomers I guess..lol but still I would be worried that she would sneak the make up and not know how to apply it...I don;t see anything wrong with it was long as you teach them how to apply and what colors are appropriate and how much...I wouldn't let her use eye liner till she was 16 though...

it's interesting to see the range of ages here....

we've been doing the nail polish off & on for years - probably painted 1st @ 3 - but I don't think of that as makeup though some probably do.

Since she hasn't asked I'm gonna just not mention it - though I may make sure to tell her not to wear anyone's from school just to make sure.

She does play in mine - along with her sisters ocassionally - but its usually just lipstick - though myu mom gave me some blush they played with for a while - til it disappeared. LOL

She doesn't "need" it - but she does look great with lipstick on..

I do like the idea of the period being a good day to give her some makeup as a pampering thing - something special. (and yes - she's over 9!)

Just this week my 12 year old (6th grade) had a little eyeliner on. She put it on one day after school. It was very subtle and I told her I was fine with her wearing it to school if she wanted to make time for it in the morning. So far she hasn't but i don't care if she does.

She says there are some girls who really paint it on in 6th grade and she doesn't like the way that looks.

I vividly remember the first day I was allowed to wear makeup.

Easter Sunday of 7th grade. I had chicken pox the week before and the Easter Bunny brought powder and light foundation , blush, lip gloss and mascara. I had so many light spots on my face lol I think the bunny thought I might want to cover it up a bit for church.

I attended an all girls school, so I only wore it for special occasions. With no boys to impress, deodorant and brushing teeth was all I worried about for years LOL.

As shocking as this is for a teenage girl, I'm 16 and I've never worn makeup. I just don't have any desire to and I don't feel like waking up earlier to take the time to put it on. I'm very slow in the morning It's never even come up with my mom so I'm not sure when I would've been allowed to wear it.

My mom and I are going shopping tomorrow to buy makeup. She is gonna teach me how I should wear it. I'm almost 14 and all my friends wear it.

My mom never said i could not wear make up... i just put lip gloss and mascara on the weekends cuz is was not allowed at school. Once i went to 7th grade and it was allowed at school thats when i started wearing powder , mascara, and lip gloss.

my kids aren't old enough yet, but I know the public school here doesn't allow makeup, lip gloss etc. until 7th grade. Seems a bit odd to me that the school deems that, but ? oh well.

As a kid, I wore it in 7th grade. Not a lot..but a light lipstick, some mascara, concealer when I got a zit. I wore more in HS, but now I rarely wear makeup at all.
I teach 7th grade and some of my girls wear way too much makeup. Most wear lipgloss, sometimes eye shadow or mascara. Oh...and lots wear wild nail polish.

I wore some makeup for my sister's wedding at age 9...a tiny bit of blush and pale pink lipstick. I felt so grown up! I always had makeup for dress up when I was a little girl, usually stuff my mom or sisters didn't like or wear anymore. I just had to wash my face before I could go out in public!

I think our public schools don't allow it until middle school which is 6th grade.

My Catholic all girls school didnt allow it or earrings until 7th, but we didnt care lol. No one wore it even in high school. No boys to try to impress.
