I saw pictures up for auction on ebay of the MAGIC after a smoke stack had caught on fire. Does anyone know what happened? Any of you on this cruise? I heard everyone had to hit deck 4 with their life jackets on at 4:00AM!!! How long did it take Disney to repair the ship? That must of been one scary cruise!!! Did Disney give out discounts for future cruises or anything since everyone on that cruise went through quite an ordeal?

We're sailing on the Magic on July 20-27 for the Western Caribbean cruise and we're reading a lot of the posts/trip reports so we'll be well prepared.

Thanks for sharing!
Linda

I believe the fire was back in March. It was talked about alot on these boards back then. If you do a search for Magic Fire you should come up with the old threads. Barb and Tony also have pictures posted on their website of the smoke stack damage at www.castawayclub.com

discruiseluvr: we were not on the fire cruise, but went two weeks after, on march 23. ( there was still significant damage that needed repairing while the ship was in port, and the mickey pool was closed until we got out to sea.) some sort of fiberglass material caught on fire in the rear smokestack. how and why has not been released by disney. it was described by a crew member as a "serious" fire, one that took the crew 1 1/2 hours to put out. guests were indeed woken up at 4:00 a.m., and could not go back to their rooms until 6:00 a.m. i am sure this was a scary experience, but the important thing is that no one was seriously injured. the mickey pool remained closed for the final two days, but the crew's pool was made available as the adult pool, the adult pool became the "goofy" pool, and the goofy pool became the "mickey" pool. it sounds like the crew did their best in a tough situation, also, every stateroom received a $100.00 credit for the inconvenience. i do not think that any "official"statement about the fire has been made by disney, and i doubt you will hear much about it. disney keeps stuff like this quiet. i have heard that the repairs (which are all cosmetic) should be done by the end of may. several fire cruisers have posted complaining about not being compensated enough, but the way i look at it: the fire didnt happen until the last two days, they got to all ports of call, the crew did a great job, no one was hurt, and if losing 2 hours sleep on a diz cruise is the worst thing that ever ever happens to these people, then they have charmed lives indeed.

The repairs appear to be complete. This past week I tried to see where the fire had been and could not tell there had been any damage.

The repairs are certainly not complete. The set of railings and walkway mounted to the top of the stack are missing altogether. It was very obvious when you all left port on Saturday.
