When did Kona get so popular?

In 2006 my father-in-law was not feeling great so I changed my Sci Fi reservation to one at our hotel so my father-in-law wouldn't have to go to a park in order to eat. On short notice we were able to get Kona.

Long story short - we loved it!

Fast forward to this trip and Kona has been difficult to get! Especially with a party of 7. I had to try multiple day options at 90 days +. There were O'Hana reservations available when there were no Kona!

When did Kona become so popular?

Surprising you can get Ohana as I can't get it but can get Kona. But it's mainly because of free dining where restaurants at the parks fill up and then restaurants and surrounding resorts fill up.

Just like you said You loved when you went back then and everyone has been loving it ever since. We fell in love with it two years ago and go back every year now. It's one of the only hotel TS that we go to every trip.

I have been to 'Ohana but never Kona. Based on the reviews on this board, we decided to try Kona this time instead.

I do know that the POLY holds back reservations for those people who stay at the hotel. Kona is smaller than Ohana's and they probably hold back a lot of tables.

Yeah I am staying at the hotel and hve had a ton of trouble. Should I have mentioned that to the agent?

Going in 18 days and couldnt get Ohana (for entire 7 nights stay) which is nornally our first night tradition so I booked Kona, I am so excited to try it..
