It is no different than some women wanting to wear Victoria's Secret or whatever other brand of bras/underwear.

If people can afford it, what does it matter what type of underwear they buy their kids?

I could care less if you want to spend your whole paycheck on a pair of undies so spend on and don't worry so much if someone else thinks you shouldn't.

They got so expensive when you bought into your child having to wear a brand name on an item of clothing nobody should be seeing anyway and get poop and pee stains on them.

And considering guys usually wear their underwear till they are rags, I can't understand why they are so picky!! Hahaha

On a serious note, my kids like the dry wick underwear from Kohls that are OUTRAGEOUS. I usually get them 30% off, 2 pair for $14. I also scream if they "misplace" them! Like socks, underwear runs away!

DBF buys his Hanes from Target, I hope he doesn't catch on to this craze, LOL.

I had always heard boys are cheaper but so far all I have found is that their expenses are different!

DD19 likes the AE underwear for its comfort. It started a couple of years ago when we bought some before our Disney trip. She is a low maintenance girl, doesn't want new clothes or shoes so I had no problem spending the money.

I agree no one should be seeing their underwear. That being said, my DS13 and his friends wear white baseball pants. The rage last year was who could wear the most crazy patterned boxers under the white pants . Of course the moms did not find out until we were so embarressed in the stands. After that our group of moms figured so what! Let them have fun, if that is all we have to worry about!

I guess that it is lucky for me that my DS has sensitive skin -- he won't wear any brand with an exposed elastic waistband. I buy him Jockey seamless waistband knit boxers when they are on sale.

I'll admit that for travel purposes I insisted that DH & DS let me buy them some wicking boxers; traditional cotton knits are really bulky and don't dry well at all if you have to wash them by hand. I get those at Jockey as well and they are VERY pricey, about $17 each if not on sale, but they each only own 4 prs and they stay packed when we are at home.

Yes, people see their underwear. People saw mine in the locker room when I was the same age too - I'm not sure why this is such a foreign concept for many posters.

I'd be more worried about who is seeing his underwear so often that it matters what brand they are. FWIW, if my teen wants "special" undies or special anything, they pay the difference between what I'm willing to spend and what they want. That often helps re-align priorities when it's their money involved.

My DS will only wear Under Armor underwear. We have found they hold up so much better. He plays sports and they just fit/feel better. I hate the cost, but I do feel they are worth the money.

It is not a foreign concept. Yes, they have to change in the locker room for PE. For your information, MY DS13 is in the 7th grade. This is his first year of changing in the locker room. But my oldest is 18 and in college. He does not care what underwear he wears.

DS13 happens to like the underwear from American Eagle, but he only gets it when I find it on clearance. If not then he wears Hanes. But thanks for your concern on whether I was confused!

I did this with all my teens clothes (10+ years ago). I would work up a budget for the coming season and say "Here's what I would spend to get you the jeans, tops, etc. ,that you need this year. You have this amount to spend, they became very good shoppers when I started doing it that way."

Just to add to the shock, DH underwear runs around 25$ each (on sale at Sears)! (I'm Canadian, but it costs about the same in the US)

I know that as a teen, I really wanted some specific underwear for the locker rooms, no white Hanes stuff, but cute stuff. Convincing my mom was difficult, but having the right "stuff" really helped out with my timidity. Run for the sales, but please help him out with the cool stuff.

ITA! Good grief, it's underwear. My DS16 wears whatever is on sale. Never heard a peep out of him about it.

This is what my parents did starting at about 14. Oddly enough, when it was "their" money, my clothes had to come from the pricier stores at the mall. Once it was "my" money, Target and Walmart became great places to shop.
