When did DISboards start? Any old timers out there?

I first joined around 1998 and then after the board change I lurked for about a year or so before re-joining. I remember Pete was an active poster and the posters, in general, were less snarky.

I joined the boards to help me get a breakfast reservation in Cindy's castle. Back then you had to call right at 7am and it was the hardest thing to get. It was almost like winning the lottery! We would be a big group all calling for each other every morning just hoping one of us would get through.

I joined when I did a search on Universal and found a discussion about the same hotel I stayed at. My son was 5 and he turned 18 this year!

I was a moderator for about 5 years, it was a trip!! I moderated the Universal and USF hotel boards, the budget board, Orlando Hotels and the Comm Bd before they changed it to the no named group to keep the targets off of our backs!

Made a LOT of friends and a few enemies back then... don't get me started..

Still here for what reason I'll never know. It's like the train wreck you have to stare at.

Almost everyone you see with a join date of August 1999 has been here longer.

They switched software or something, and every member's join date became 10/99 and their post counts were reset to zero.

....mine was reset to zero also, but it was for a TOTALLY DIFFERENT REASON...

Mine says Jan 2000 but I think it was in 98/99.....I know my date got reset during one of the crashes....

See, I didn't know all those other boards were here back then. It took me awhile to even know there were other boards than the rumors board. I never left my comfort zone. HMMMMM, I still don't.

I heard about the Dis on another site and joined in 2000 when I was playing a trip for 7 adults (siblings and spouses). I don't post that much but I have learned so much from the boards.

It was definitely way different back then! Much less drama, much less hysterics, much less But change happens, and the DIS boards are still here and we're all still loving Disney, and that's what counts!

Can't remember when I joined, but it was quite a while before that.

Ahhhh...yes, the many crashes of the DIS back then. Fond memories....

Yes, I remember all those crashes. I lost sooo many posts.
I remember before one server change, we were frantically trying to copy threads before the change was make and we would lose them all.

I watched for a while before posting and my post total isn't very high given my first post date was 2002.

I experienced one of the crashes and lost posts and counts. Mine says 2000 but I know it was late 90's. My then babies are getting to the end of high school. Once I posted live from a cruise and Pete took care of a problem Wow. Where does the time go!

When I joined, my dd was 10 and I was planning our first WDW trip. Now she's 20 and is in college. At least she still goes to WDW with me every year.

I actually lurked for about a year before joining.

I've been meaning to ask for awhile...did you participate in a Christmas ornament swap way, way back? I still have the one I got from an Amy and wondered if it was you.

I've been here since 1997 or 98....lost my sign in at some point then finally just re-registered. I really only remember one board so maybe I didn't get around much. Like Peg said, it was difficult to follow a popular thread since with the format it was in the replies would roll right off the page!

Thinking back, anyone else remember the "Best Rate" program, where you booked way in advance to get the best price? And then all the posts asking if that really was going to be the best price, checking to see if their deal was really the best price, and if they changed dates would they really be getting the best price, and on and on
