When did Concierge become Club?

It is the same as before (minus the potential for inordinate expectations?) :confused3

Still thinking about Royal Palm "Club" ;)

Has anyone seen if AKL's offerings are the same at last year when they were still concierge?

I'd sure miss those African smoothies.... :sunny:

I think they've always been referred to both ways. The Kilimanjaro club specifically refers to the concierge lounge and cast on the 6th floor at the AKL. RPC is the main building concierge and all its amenities at the GF :sunny: .

Can't answer your questions, but just wanted to say HI! I've missed seeing you around.

I think they all have "club" in their lounge names and that's been for as long as I can remember (Regatta Club, Stoneharbor Club, Atrium Club, etc.). They just weren't widely used. About a year ago, it seems that they started referring to the "floor" as club level as opposed to concierge level. For anyone who's stayed concierge at non-Disney resorts, there is definitely a major difference in what Disney offers. I think "club" is a better definition for what they offer. As to any changes, they seem to be more subtle, with maybe not so much as a variety in the food offerings. That doesn't seem to be anything new though. I remember a few years ago, they removed individual bottles of water, then they did away with the homemade oatmeal for a while too.

1) Yep, WDW has changed the name due to what TammiMcMan said.
2) There had been a lot of complaints for "lack of Concierge services".
3) These came from the usually seasoned travelers.
4) Disney never really had "Concierge" level service.
5) As an example of non-offered services
. . . admission media to non-Disney parks
. . . no help for tickets to off-site shows
. . . airline reservation assistance
. . . no ressies for off-site restaurants
. . . arrangements for limos or town cars, except making the call for you
. . . ability to get into sold-out restaurants, except at their own hotel
. . . arrangements for other personal services
6) So, to better clarify their service, they changed the name to Club Floor.

I think part of the change may also have to do with renaming the resort guest services to the new "Lobby Concierge" for all guests. (Still not true Concierge as pointed out by RustyScupper). Since many have a sign that read Concierge there will be no confusion of Club Level guests this is not their upgraded service

Actually, I remember a funny anecdote about this--I was reserved in AKL "concierge" (as I referred to it then) back in 2003, and my then boyfriend kept trying to interject (before the trip) that concierge was hotel service and it had nothing to do with food offerings or a special floor like I was describing to him. He thought I had the title of it incorrect. I guess he needed to visit the deluxes at Disney more often!

Thanks for listing what was omitted...I like the ease of club because I don't want to make breakfast for my little one--and somehow, I liked the lounge experience better than ordering room service. I had never really tried to use the other services.

I guess you're right about the titles... I used to always just refer to them as "concierge" also--now I'll get used to the club term. I agree that club offers a better description :sunny:

Honestly, I thought AKL concierge was nicer than the club level at many of the Sheratons I've stayed at (I remember one in Niagara Falls...the lounge offered a spectacular view of the falls, but the offerings were like hard boiled eggs and vegetable sticks, and maybe meatballs at dinner). :goodvibes
