When did colored Toilet Paper disappear?

Just a guess here, but, it is possible that the dye used in it was not environmentally friendly.

I remember it. I think most of it stopped in the 80's. It was not good for the ladies.

We had a house with a septic tank when I was a kid in the 80s and another about a decade ago--both septics came with instructions for care that included not using colored paper as it does not break down as easily or fast.

I cannot even remember the last time I have seen it. Oddly enough, I did actually think about this the other day :rotfl:

I remember the colored toilet paper. My grandmother had blue in her upstairs bathroom and peach in her downstairs one and it had to be Scott brand only!

I think too many people were allergic to the dyes -- didn't want to irritate "sensitive" areas.

Back in high school I preferred the colorful patterns when "landscaping" friends' yards. Made a bolder statement.

It was for sure around in the '80's :rolleyes1

I didn't really remember colored toilet paper until this post. We used to have blue or pink and matching Kleenex.

I actually just saw some at WalMart today and the colours were so wild I think I'd be afraid to use it...:scared1:

It's been a long, long time since I've noticed anything but white available though. I also grew up with Grandma always having pink, to match her shower curtain and fuzzy lid cover. Good memories! :goodvibes
I've seen it at Walmart too. I don't think I'd buy it though. I remember when I was a kid some people would have toilet paper in a soft peach colour or a soft blue. I forgot about it until this thread. My parents only bought boring white.

I definitely remember colored toilet paper that was perfumed. I thought it was fancy. :)

I used a paper towel that had a colored print on it to cover a dish in the microwave and the print transferred to the food! :scared1: So, I definitely won't be using the new colored stuff.

Ooh, I remember colored toilet paper. My grandma had it in the upstairs "fancy" bathroom. Everything in there was blue: the toilet, the tub, the sinks...and the tp.

Thanks for making us go down memory lane. I love to tell my children about the things we had when we were young. I remember it being Scott brand and in individual packages. The colors we had were pink, blue and yellow. I also remember the red and blue roses I do not remember the brand though.

Just returned from Italy. They had the colored stuff. I had to go buy plush white. I took it with me when we checked out and headed for the next hotel, for fear they would have colored too. But they had white.

Huh. Never thought of that. My grandma always had pink when I was a kid. I've not seen a color other than white in years.

I'd totally forgotten about it too. I'm 45 and remember my grandma having pink as well.

I don't recall seeing any. I recall Kimberly-Clark used to prominently market Kleenex with "We have colors", with the standard blue and pink boxes having the same color tissues.

You can still buy colored toilet paper from boutique manufacturers, so I guess it hasn't completely disappeared. It's kind of a novelty or a color-coordination thing. I suppose it could be interesting to have this stuff for putting on a dinner party, like having specific color napkins. This company has it in black and hot pink:

Or glow in the dark toilet paper. I'm guessing it's not the kind that's radioactive.

Here's a blog posting on colored toilet paper. The ad shows 5 different colors.
