When can I next use borrowed points?

So we're using every last one of our points (banked 2008, current 2009 and borrowed 2010) on a big family vacation this year.

Our use year is Feb so we have no more points coming until Feb 2011.

Am I correct in assuming that I can borrow some of our 2011 points for a 3 night stay in Feb or March 2010?

Also am I correct in assuming that I can't use the borrowed Feb 2011 points for a January 2010 stay?

I know, maybe we should just buy more points ;)

TIA for any advice/pointers!

You are allowed to borrow one use year ahead.

If your next set of unused points is for your 2011 use year, you may borrow them for a vacation that occurs in your 2010 use year (2/1/2010 - 1/31/2011).

So you can borrow 2011 points to use for February 2010 or March 2010 vacations, because both of those vacations would fall within your 2010 use year (2/1/2010- 1/31/2011).

But you may not use the 2011 use year points for a January 2010 vacation. January 2010 falls within your 2009 use year (2/1/2009-1/31/2010). You can't borrow from a use year that is 2 years in the future.

The Understanding Use Year Thread will be of interest to you. Make yourself a chart like that in the first post and you will quickly catch on.

Thank you! The Understanding use year thread is very helpful!

Remember, use year has nothing to do with when you may call to make a reservation. All of your points are actually "in your account". You don't have to wait until your use year begins to have access to your points - you just have to match your vacation dates to the use year it falls within, and then make sure you have enough points in that use year to make the desired reservation.

This answers another question I had--when I booked our Aug 2009 stay in Jan 2009, the CM said that we would have to wait til Feb 2009 to make part of the booking because the borrowed Feb 2010 wouldn't be in our account til then. I asked her to please go ahead and try to make the booking (having read here on Disboards that others had been able to make bookings like mine) and she was a bit surprised when it went through. Maybe your Understanding Use Year thread should be required reading for CMs? :thumbsup2

Good move on your part :thumbsup2 because that CM was incorrect telling you that you needed to wait until Feb 2009 to "wait" for Feb 2010 points to be applied to your reservation. Feb 2010 points can be borrowed into your 2009 UY when you call to reserve PRIOR TO FEB 2009 because the reservation itself occurs during your 2009 UY ( between 2/1/2009 - 1/31/2010 ).

You may always call as early as 11 months prior to a check-in date you want at your HOME RESORT (& as early as 7 months before to book at non-home resorts) - ie in April 2008 at your 11 mos window you called to book you HR for March 2009 using banked Feb 2008 pts + Feb 2009 UY pts + borrowed Feb 2010 UY pts; there is no waiting for your Use Year month to come around to have access to these points for that reservation.

:goodvibes
