When can I make my reservation?

I want to make a ressie for Aug. 2010 at a resort other than my home resort. I am now within the 7 month mark. My use year is April. I will get all of my 2010 points then, but that won't be quite enough. Do I have to wait until after April 2010 to make the ressie because I need to borrow from my 2011 points? Does that make sense? I am still trying to learn all of this!

Since your trip falls in your April 2010 UY, those points would be used and you can borrow from your April 2011 UY if necessary. You DON'T need to wait until April to make the reservation, you can do that 7 months out from your desired check-in date.

All of your points are already deposited into your Use Years. You do not have to wait until that Use Year rolls around. Use Year has nothing to do with when you can make reservations. You can make reservations 11 months before check-in at your home resort and 7 months before check-in at any other DVC resort. For example, I called in November to make a reservation at my home resort AKV for a trip in October 2010 (11 months before). My UY is June. I used some banked 2009 points, all of my 2010 points, and borrowed some 2011 points. I didn't need to wait until June. By then, I probably wouldn't have gotten what I wanted! Just figure 11 or 7 months before check-in, call MS, and tell them you want to use your 2010 points and need to borrow from your 2011 points. Good luck!
