When can I borrow?

My use year is April 1. As of this year 2015 I only have 52 points left because I borrowed so many last UY.

Now I want to go Jan 2016 and will be making my reservation in July for the 7 month window to stay at BCV. That is after my 52 points are loaded up.

Can I then borrow from the 2016 UY to stay in Jan?

Does that make any sense at all???:jester:

Jan 2016 falls into your 2015 use year (April 2015-March 2016), which I believe you are saying has 52 points left in it. You can book for the Jan 2016 trip around now for 11 months out using those 52 points plus any points you need to borrow from your 2016 year, and same with the 7 month window in July.

Right. When my points come on I only have 52 left for year 2015. To go in January will still be in the 2015 use year but I want to borrow from 2016 for the Jan trip. So the answer is yes, I can borrow, book the trip and then pray we get good airfare. It is so far away to be thinking Disney.

your points are already there, for both your 2015 and 2016 UYs. (and farther out than that...except that you have to wait for your home resort window to open up to be able to use them.)

the first step is always to figure out what UY your stay falls into. then you should understand that you will have access to banked pts from the prior UY (if any) + current pts (based on the dates of that stay) + borrowed pts from the next UY (if needed).

Goodness Chalee, now my head is spinning. Do I need to bank the 52 points? I think I leave them and DVC starts with using them first then borrowing into my next use year....right?

no, your 2015 UY pts are valid for stays from april 1, 2015 to march 31, 2016. you don't need to bank them since a Jan 2016 stay falls in that period.

i'm just saying you are not waiting for your UY to start for your pts to become available.

so if you were calling in may 2015 to book a stay in your home resort for april 2016, you could borrow pts from your 2017 UY to complete the reservation.

but if you are booking a stay in march 2016, that falls in your 2015 UY so you would only be able to borrow as far out as your 2016 UY pts.

Remembering when the trip takes place not when you book that the points must be available to use.
That is the way to keep aware of banking/borrowing issues.

Easiest way to remember is that any trip can be booked with points that are banked from the UY prior to travel, UY of travel, and borrowed from UY after travel. Does not matter what calendar year it is when you call. So, a January 2016 trip will happen in your April 2015 UY. You can call right at 11 months and book using banked 2014 UY points (if you had them), 2015 UY points, and borrowed 2016 UY points.

Good luck!!

When you go to make your reservation in June (not July) at 7 months out from Jan 2016, you will be able to use your 52 April 2015 points and borrow what you need from April 2016 use year. That reservation can be made online at 8 a.m. eastern exactly 7 months out from date of arrival.

I do not know the dates you want in Jan but be aware if they include any time between Jan 1 and 3 (still part of the holiday season) or Jan 6 and 10 (part of marathon weekend), then you better make a reservation at your home resort (which you can do 11 months out, meaning during Feb 2015, using the April 2015 points and borrowed April 2016 points) and then try to change at 7 months. Also if those are your dates in Jan, your chances of getting BCV or any near park resort at 7 months out are slim.

Thank you so much for the information on the dates. We were planning the time of the marathon. I wish there were was a calendar that showed all events and school holidays. I guess that is the at some of the sites with crowd estimations.

Unfortunately, the next time we could go in late Feb and the point season goes so high. I will have to rethink the entire trip as DS also doesn't seem to care much. Perhaps he is aging out of Disney?

Just for future reference, crowd estimations and calendars showing such are mostly irrelevant to whether you can get a DVC room at 7 months out. How big the park crowds may be because of Disney in general demand has not proven to determine how hard it is to get room at a DVC resort at 7 months out. Simplified: the Monday after marathon weekend in Jan until the last week of Sep is DVC's low to moderate demand season in which many things even at near park resorts are usually open at 7 months out, and that includes holiday times during that period. If instead, you want to go for time from late Sep through marathon weekend in Jan, then it will be usually difficult to many times impossible to get a near park resort at 7 months out. It is far easier to get Easter and July 4 time time at a near park resort at 7 months out than it is to get any time during that last quarter of the year. Marathon weekend is actually one of DVC's extremely high demand times even though park crowds are not huge.
