We are hoping to score a 1 BR Villa at BLT for our trip next year 10/26/13 - 11/02/13. When can we call WDW to book??

The only way we can afford a 1 BR Villa is if there's another good October sale (like this year's 30% off sale). What are my hopes of that sale being repeated? And when should I start keeping my eyes open for it?

We do have a backup plan in place in case there are no 1 BR's available or if there's no sale offered. :D

Also, due to my aging grandmother being recently moved into a nursing home, my mother is unable to be CERTAIN of being able to go that week next year so we aren't comfortable renting points. We may try that for our next trip though so we can afford to stay closer to the action :)

You can typically begin booking DVC villas through Disney at 10 months out. As for discounts, you're far more likely to see discounts at Old Key West or Saratoga Springs or Animal Kingdom Villas. The DVC resorts with direct access to the parks (BLT, BCV, BWV, VWL) fill up quickly and thus Disney has little incentive to discount those resorts. Good luck!

BLT is sold out to DVC members now, so there is less availability to non-members for cash through Disney Reservation Center. I'd start looking at about nine months out and see if you can get anything.

They're sold out for next October already? :(

No, it is a DVC resort (timeshare) and it is pretty much sold out to members. So members own about 97% of the building to book on DVC points. What remainsto reserve for cash is the small percentage that DVC owns (about 3%) and what members trade in for non-DVC Disney trips.

Even members who own there cannot book for next October except for Oct 1-8, 2013 right now.

Hi OP. We just returned about 10 days ago from a fabulous trip to BLT. We rented DVC points through a popular broker and I can't recommend that route highly enough. We booked at the 11 month window (which is coming up for you). It was a totally smooth process. In the end, I have no doubt that we saved a ton of money this way, as well.

AAA room discounts often apply at BLT but have limited availability. We are in a 2 bedroom villa in 4/13 at 20% off. Still trying to get military (40%off) but will be happy with 20% since even the GP room discounts are usually only ~5% for BLT, for reasons OP mentioned. You do have to book early if you want to try to book a AAA discount.
See my post here on how I approached it:
