If you buy a resale do you still get a welcome package with the menber handbook etc. from Disney? How long after closing do you get sent to you?Are there any disadvantages to buying resale except closing costs that you can think of? Thanks for all the helpful information from everyone while we are trying to decide.

You get all the info you need including the handbook, etc. You usually get a phone call making sure you understand DVC. You will not get the gifts like backpacks or bags. The benefits to resale are (usually) price and the possibility of buying a sold out resort. The down side is the loss of being able to pick use year and exact number of points as well as the loss of the Disney financing option.

The other downside of resale is the speed at which the transaction is completed and the time before you can make a reservation...It tooks a few months before Disney sent us stuff after our resale. It took about 6 to 8 weeks after the terms were agreed on before we could make a reservation. As it was we probably paid a bit more than we needed to even on the resale, but we were able to cancel our hotel plans and use DVD for an already planned vacation- so that saved us the slight difference and we got the sold out resort we wanted for the next 39+ years...

I had a much better experience when purchasing my resale. From the day that I made the offer, everything was complete and recorded and I was making reservations exactly 4 weeks later.

I had other financing options so didn't need those offered by Disney. There were quite a number of resales available at the time so I got a good deal on the point costs, was able to find several different resales with the number of points I wanted and had several options of use year. The resale that I bought had banked points and the offer that I made, and had accepted, had the seller pay closing costs so I got many of the same advantages that you get with buying directly from Disney.

Although I had a good experience, going directly with Disney, you can still make ressies with the points faster than I did. Now, I'm not sure how that works right now with BCV points. You might check out other threads about that.

With the exception of the tote bag, what should be in the welcome package? We received the member guidebook, but nothing else.

We purchased two BWV resales and saved over $1,000 on each compared to purchase through Disney. If one is into tote bags, you can buy a carload of them with the savings provided via resales;) ;) ;) ;) ;) . As I recall, our closings took place approx. 1 month after our initial offer, and we were immediately able to make reservations. We also got a call from DVC asking about any questions which we might have about the program.

Good Luck,
