When buying a basic one-day park ticket just for free dining...

If we don't use our basic one-day park tickets, can we apply the purchase price to a multi-day ticket in the future? Or to the cost of rooms at a Disney Resort? I've read that a lot of people apply them to an AP ticket, but I don't remember anyone talking about applying them to anything else. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, you can apply that 1 day pass to a multi-day pass when you are at Disney World, or at sometime in the future.

When I called to ask about upgrading to the Waterparks, Fun and More tickets (during Free Dining), I was told it needed to be done 48 hours prior to arrival. I'm wondering if this applies to all upgrades? I thought you could upgrade at any time. Does anyone else have any information?

about the tickets they said you need to upgrade 48 hours prior. they may not let you do it on the phone at this point but you can certainly upgrade them once you are at your hotel.

travelgirl06 and KimStaR, I think you're referring to something different. I don't want to upgrade current tickets, but apply the purchase price of an unused ticket to something different in the future (maybe several years from now). Is that what you're asking about?

I used the 1-day ticket I purchased with the dining package and applied it to a 3 day FL resident pass when I checked in.

Yes, they let you deduct the price of the one day ticket from the purchase price of the annual pass.

You can hold on to the one day ticket (which never expires) and upgrade it at any time. Don't know about 48 hours on the phone--we upgraded instantly at Guest Services at our resort.

For anything except an AP you can upgrade at your resort guest services. However, to upgrade to an AP you must go either to a park guset services or guest services at DTD.

Last May my mom upgraded her one day ticket to a 9 day at the resort, but I had to go to DTD GS to upgrade mine to an AP. This last Sept my mom and my ex both upgraded their one day tickets to 9 day passes, while I saved mine. They were asked by the CM if they wanted the hopper option and/or the plus options. I'm going in Sept and will again have a one day ticket I won't use, but I'll be upgrading one of my MYW tickets to an AP. I have a 7 day MYW with pluses that I bought during the first free dining period (Sept '05) because that's what my son and D-I-L wanted to buy. I'll probably use that ticket. I'll still have two one day tickets left to use sometime in the future.

Exactly! I've done this twice this year. We went for the FDDP in August 06 and came home with the 2 one-day tickets. In October we renewed my AP and paid the difference after subtracting the $71 value of the one day ticket. Just a couple of weeks ago we renewed DH's AP with the second one day ticket and paid the difference after substracting the $71 value. This is a real bargain for us because we are DVC members and already get $100 off of our AP, so our renewal price was about $260 after applying the one day ticket to the price.

We renewed while at WDW. We go 4-5 times a year and are always there when one of our passes are within the 30 days of expiring, so have always just renewed in person. DH always expires April 29 and I always expire Oct. 20 and we are always there late April/early May for 2 weeks and we are always there the last 2 weeks of October.

do you like the staggered renewal dates? ours are all the same date in Feb and luckily the youngest who will be three this coming Feb will allow us to stay the same....

Yep to the ticket purchase, nope to the room purchase. Also, you can use the ticket toward upgrading AP or renewing passes.

My DH and I are going in Sept. We also bought the 1 day base ticket to get the free dining. Sorry, not correct. You can only use the value of ONE ticket towards the purchase of ONE new ticket. So you cannot combine the value of both of yours and your husband's tickets towards the purchase of one 7 day child hopper.

iam a bit confused. If i understand correctly you take the 1 day ticket hold it for a year ot two and then you can turn it into a(lets say 2day park hopper) and they deduct the price you paid for the ticket on the ddp package. How would they know what to apply since the tickets aren't dated? do they go by the current price the 1 day ticket is going for at the time?

The tickets may not be dated, but they are encoded with information - such as if the ticket has been used, and the price that was paid.

So you are completely correct. If you have a one day ticket and never use it, you can apply the price of that ticket to the purchase of another ticket which is worth more.
