When are banked points used?

Hello all. New member here. Just closed on our Beach Club contract and have a question about banking.

I currently have 90 points in the 2008 UY which I will more than likely bank into 09. We're undecided right now, but we know we want to go in Oct 09, so I just made a reservation in the 09 UY using 09 points.

If/when, I bank the 08 points, will those points be credited towards the current reservation or will I have 90 banked points in 09 that will need to be used before the 2010 UY?

First off which month is your UY? I would call if able to bank and if there is availability swithc the ressie to include the banked points.

Ok -- just called them. They were able to bank my points and adjust the existing reservation to use them. So in the end, I'm left with 0 points in 08 and all regular (non-banked) points in 09.

Be sure to tell them to use your banked points first. I had a CM not use banked points but I caught it on a follow up call.

IF you bank first and reserve second, they should use the banked points but they can make a mistake in this area as noted above. OTOH if you reserve first then have banked or borrowed points (or a different set of points you'd rather use) later, DVC will not automatically substitute those points. If you ask they MAY be able to sub the points but remember that technically ANY sub of points is a cancellation and rebooking though the way they handle this is variable.

To avoid problems, get in the habit of asking the MS CM to give you a status of your points after each transaction. If your records don't agree with theirs, get it corrected right then and there. It's always easier to fix a problem or mistake right after it happens. As Dean posted, they may not use the points you expect.
