I am new to dcl. We are flying then taking the shuttle to Port Canaveral. When should I get my wine? Can you have it in your checked bag when flying? Wouldnt it break? Will the shuttle stop somewhere?

The DCL transfers will not make a stop. Wine must be in your checked bag for flying but in your carry-on bag for the cruise.
  • If you are bringing it from home and flying, you'll need to put it in your checked bag.
  • But do NOT put the DCL luggage tag on that bag.
  • When you land at MCO, go to baggage claim and collect that one piece.
  • Switch the wine from your checked bag to your carry-on.
  • Put DCL luggage tag on the checked bag and bring it with you to the ME/DCL transfer check-in.
  • It will be put on a truck there and taken to the ship. Wine will be in your carry-on to take onto the ship.
Enjoy your cruise!

We set up our own ground transfer, so we just stopped at Publix on our way to port (then just kept it in our carry-on onto the ship). Don't forget a corkscrew! :)

Exactly...That is part of the reason we switched to a limo/car service so that we could make a stop on the way to port. Plus, if you have more than 2-3 people, its also cheaper. For convenience, we usually take the DCL shuttle back to the airport. Be warned, some companies will only do the stop if you book a round trip transfer with them. There are a few that will do it one way.

We bought re-usable "wine diapers" which are made of foamy, absorbent material (Hey, kinda like diapers!) but the outsides are waterproof and seal shut. We place our wine in them, seal them up, and wrap clothes around them to protect them from the suitcase sides. We've never had an issue with anything breaking, but have read about other folks using wine diapers who have, and the wine diapers protected their other belongings, since the liquid was trapped inside. We plan to do the same this cruise, since we are celebrating a big anniversary, and have some special champagne that will be coming along with us! :) We have also bought wine in Port Canaveral when we are staying overnight prior to the cruise departure. Whichever you are most comfortable with, you should do. We forgot a corkscrew on one cruise, and asked the concierge host to borrow one. It was no big deal. I'm pretty sure they said you can also request one from room service if you need one. Since then, I've bought a small portable corkscrew that just stays in my toiletries bag always. Have fun!
