January 1: Harbour Town Lights in The Sea Pines Resort, 8 p.m.-midnight. Stroll along the Harbour and enjoy illuminated seasonal figures with a towering Christmas tree. January 1- 12: After-School Classes for ages 7 and older offered by The First Tee of The Lowcountry at various locations on Hilton Head Island, in Bluffton and in Beaufort. Classes are held once a week for 6 weeks from 4:30-6 p.m. Children learn a variety of golf skills, as well as The First Tee Nine Core Values and Nine Healthy Habits. January 22: Rehearsals for "Evita" begin on April 10, and performances run from May 2-27, 2018. Actors must be available for all rehearsals and performances. Auditions are by appointment only. Please prepare a 32 bar selection in a style consistent with the character(s) for which you are interested. Please choose from the modern musical theatre or rock opera canon. All performers returning for callbacks will need to sing and dance; Principals will also need to dance. If you dance, please bring in character shoes (men and women). January 24: 12:00 - 2.00: The University of South Carolina Beaufort Center for the Arts presents its Lunch with Author Series with Melanie Benjamin will discuss her next novel, "The Girls in the Picture," about early Hollywood and the creative friendship between Mary Pickford and Frances Marion. Writing was always beckoning, however, and soon Benjamin began writing for local magazines and newspapers before venturing into her first love, fiction. By combining her passion for history and biography, she has found her niche writing historical fiction, concentrating on the "stories behind the stories." Her most recent novel, "The Swans of Fifth Avenue," is a New York Times, USA Today and IndieBound best seller, as was her novel about Anne Morrow Lindbergh, "The Aviator's Wife." Her first novel, "Alice I have Been" was a national bestseller; this was followed by the critically acclaimed, "The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb." Event starts at noon.
