When and how to activate my AP?

Our first trip with our APs is quickly approaching! :yay:

I have a voucher now, and I have booked a room at AKL with an AP discount.

1. Will they let me check in with the voucher, provided I activate it on the day of arrival? (I'd rather get checked in first instead of having to stop by a park to get the pass activated.)

2. If I have to get it activated prior to resort arrival, can we just swing by the ticket window at AK in the mid-afternoon to get it activated?

3. Can any guest services window outside of any of the four parks activate the pass, and do they have specific hours?

4. Do I need to bring anything to activate the pass other than a driver's license and proof of the voucher?

Thanks!

1. You very likely won't need even the voucher (nor the live AP) to check in.
In fact, if you use on-line check-in, you won't even visit the check-in desk at all.

2. If you just want to activate the AP, you certainly can.

3. It can be done at any ticket booth or Guest Relations outside any park, or at TTC, or at DTD. If the park is open, a booth will be open. In the mornings the booths will be open well before the park opens.

4. ALL adult guests getting an AP must be there, and show a legal photo ID.

Thanks so much, Robo. Your advice is always so useful.

Do you think using online check-in is a good idea? I have heard some mention that when you do this, you cannot ask for a room reassignment (I am traveling with my mom and, due to her mobility issues, I would really like a room close to the lobby. We have stayed at AKL previously and our room was probably one of the farthest from the lobby. We have made this request already, but I'd like to have the chance to ask again if the request is not granted).

Thanks again!

You don't have to use on-line check-in if you don't want to... and STILL very likely you won't be asked to show your AP. It has always been very rare that guests are asked for it at check-in.
If a CM does happen to want to see an AP, you can come back to the desk the next day with the AP.
All standard procedure.

My first trip with my AP I only had the voucher and had no problem checking in and getting my discount. They didn't even ask for it, I don't think I've ever had any of the resorts ask for it but it is listed on MDE so that might make a difference. I went to guest relations at AK to buy my TIW and it was quick and easy there, my DS and DIL used the ticket booth at AK to get their military vouchers activated and again no problem, AK seems to have the least lines that I have seen so far for that. Mind you, I already had a ticket and it was almost at rope drop and I went to the GR inside the park and DS arrived around 10:30 or so and there literally was no one at the window. I activated my AP voucher at MK around 3:30 in the afternoon and there was about a hour wait in line for that. We have also used the IG at Epcot to activate the kids military tickets before, which again was no wait.
