...it is often believed.

Q. Which party took Social Security from an independent fund and put it
in the general fund so that Congress could spend it?

A. It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratic- controlled House and
Senate.

Q. Which party put a tax on Social Security?

A. The Democratic party.

Q. Which party increased the tax on Social Security?

A. The Democratic Party with Al Gore throwing the deciding vote.

Q. Which party decided to give money to immigrants?

A. The Democratic Party.
An immigrant can move into this country at 65 and get SSI Social
Security. The Democratic Party gave that to them although they never
paid any money into it. (Is this called buying votes?) [This is the
kind of insanity that has bankrupted the Europeans retirement system]

And the Kicker is... After doing all this, they promulgate the lie that
Republicans want to take your Social Security.

The worst part is that it is believed by the uninformed.
When a lie is told often enough it is believed. The Democrats are
desperate to find an issue.

doesn't this belong on the debate board?

What? The CB is not capable of having discussions? Why is it that just because it's political in nature, it's deemed a "debate" right away. Perhaps we should have more faith in DISers' abilities to discuss something without it turning into mud-slinging. (Well, we can hope, right? ;) :)

the CB is for fluff, dear. confrontational posts like yours belong on the db.

I'm sure you'll find lots of support from Richyams and Ben Stone and a few others over there.

The mud had already been slung by you. You called Democrats liars. Oh ... I'm sorry ... someone else on the Internet, alt.politics.republicans to be exact, called Democrats liars. You're just passing on the little tid-bit. I agree with Briar Rose 7457. This one should be moved to the Debate Board.

I vote Democratic. There are many things that the party acts on that I don't really approve of, but the majority of the basic principles - I do believe in. I similarly support some of the Republican actions - but the bulk of the principles I do not believe in. So I vote for candidates that generally fit with my expectations and principles - and I end up voting Democratic most of the time.

The original information posted appears to be campaign rhetoric. I am sure many others will bring similar information forth about the Republican party - there have been some rather unsavory actions by that group as well. I will refrain because I don't believe it serves a purpose - other than to make those who believe differently to feel angry and insulted.

Vote your heart. Align with those who most closely speak to your beliefs.

I for one am sick to death tired of the mud throwing campaigns by both parties.

Don't forget the three BIG lies:

I'll love you in the morning,

The check is in the mail,

I'm from the government, and I'm here to help you:rolleyes:

Speaking of telling the truth. President Bush said I would get more money from the tax cut. I get$10 every 2 weeks more and spend more than $30 a month more on gas pricces because hee said it is ok. He sure took care of me.

I agree, Kara. Your statements above certainly do not constitute a debate, at least at this early stage of this thread, just some thoughts. In the few years I was a moderator, I moved two or three threads to the DB, and ONLY after several days of deteriorating mud slinging and insults, which do seem to go hand-in-hand with the DB quite often. The CB, by its stated guideline from Pete........
a discussion forum for any topic, Disney or otherwise. Swap stories, information, ask questions...just be friendly
should be able to handle virtually ANY topic (as long as it is within the guidelines of a family board) without getting moved to any other board, DB or others.

BTW, Kara, I do vote as an independent, though if I went back and did a spead sheet on my voting record, I would probably find more elephant votes than donkey votes. :)

Dave....they gotta make up that budget shortfall somehow....

Kara, please check this out.....

1983 - Social Security Amendment Act of 1983 passes. This drastically accelerates the schedule of tax hikes in Social Security originally passed in 1977. The schedule is to be completed by 1990 instead of the year 2030.

Can anyone tell me who was President in '83? Bueller? anyone?

I'm proud to be a Democrat. I am so sick and tired of being called names for my political affiliation. I am tired of hearing about how the Democrats are responsible for the woes of the world.

You may not like SS Kara but there a lot of people who rely on it to LIVE. In my mind it is a necessary evil and I have no problem with chipping in my money or my family's money.

"And the Kicker is... After doing all this, they promulgate the lie that Republicans want to take your Social Security."

How is that a lie? I call cutting back benefits, taking your money don't you?

And I have to know is that like the lie "the Democrats want to raise your taxes because they are postponing a tax cut"?

"The worst part is that it is believed by the uninformed.
When a lie is told often enough it is believed. The Democrats are
desperate to find an issue."

To me they don't need to. All they have to do is point to our economy and that extra $10 every 2 weeks that Dave gets... I think that people will finally get the point that the tax cut was all about the rich and very little about the poor.

On a final note, personally I think we should just bite the bullet and fix SS but in doing so not cut or scale back benefits. We need to keep the promise to people who rely on that money and transition over the plan. That will mean biting the bullet and digging deeper in our pockets. Again I have no problem with that either. In the long run we would get that money back in the form of higher returns on our investments.

If you want to fix SS Kara then get out your wallet otherwise stop complaining.

"Your statements above certainly do not constitute a debate"

I disagree Dan. Calling people liars is most certainly fodder for the DB.
