Anyone with experience/advice re: wheelchairs aboard ship?
1. Are manual chairs available (complementary or rental) aboard MAGIC?
2. If not, any advice re: rental in Orlando or Port Canaveral?
3. Any advice re: bringing chair from home? How do airlines handle chairs? Are they checked as baggage?

Thank you for your help.

Sorry, no firsthand experiences on the ship. As an airlines gate agent, we check in wheelchairs with a gate tag, if you need it to get to the plane, and put it right in the belly, and it will be the first thing taken off along with any strollers, walkers, etc.

I would call DCL and ask them about their wheelchairs on the ships, as I am sure they are limited in their supply.

Good Luck in your research!!

When we went on our first Disney cruise in 1999, my grandmother sailed with us. After we set sail, we realized that it was just too dangerous for her to walk around aboard ship because she wasn't all that steady. We got her a manual wheelchair. Sorry, but I don't remember if it was rented or free of charge. We used that the entire trip. When we got to Castaway Cay, we wheeled her off the ship and right at the entrance to the beach we saw some sand wheelchairs -- the ones with the big wheels that you can roll on the sand (they also had strollers, too) and transferred her into one of those. Then we wheeled her right to the water's edge. She had a great time. It reallly worked out well.

Does anybody have pictures of the beach wheel chairs. we're tring to get my grandma to go and we want to show her what beach wheelchairs are like on castaway cay so she doesn't have to walk all the time.
