Hi all. I meant to write this ages ago, but haven't got around to it until now. I just wanted to offer a bit of information that we found out about Teamboat Springs at BB for all the wheelchair users here:
At the bottom of the chairlift there are a limited number of water-chairs (I don't know if that's the official name or not), which you can borrow, leaving your own chair there (it's within a fenced area, constantly manned by CMs, so there's very little risk of anyone interfering with it while you're away). You can then ride in the gondola car to the top of the mountain (the CMs stop the ride at the bottom and the top). The really clever bit is, when you get to the front of the queue, they stop the ride, put you and your party in the second float then strap the water-chair into the one in front. The chair is sent on it's own little ride down the slope and, once it's reached the bottom, your ring is dispatched. When you get to the bottom, a CM will be waiting in the water with the chair. You can then trundle round to collect your own chair (or ride again
).
Of course, when I rode it, it didn't go quite as smoothly as that. The chair, being rather light, didn't have the momentum to get round all the turns and ended up getting stuck. In the end a CM had to ride down in one of the rings, to push the chair through
.
The chairs themselves are made of thick plastic piping with a seat of woven plastic strands. There is a lip on the front of the seat which is just the right height to stick over the edge of the ring, making transferring in a lot easier (the hop out is a little less elegant). They're not that comfortable and those needing special seating might prefer to take their own chair up and send a member of their party back down in the gondola with the chair to meet them at the bottom (I've heard this is possible, but don't know exactly how it works).
Hope all this made sense, any questions just give me a shout!
