hi, we are due to travel in Nov, but DD has developed vasculitis again. if the specialist does give her the ok to travel she will occasionally need to use a wheelchair.
we will bring our own with us as she may need it both in and out of the parks.
what is the policy with the buses, is it ok to fold up the chair and get on as normal when she not using it.
thank you
cal :)

yes you can fold it up and carry on bus

You will want to board in the back so you can use the ramp, rather than trying to carry it up the steps in the front, but you can definitely bring it and fold it with her sitting in a regular seat. You can also have her ride in the wc up the ramp and then sit down if that is easier too.

do they even have buses with stairs in them anymore?

Very few if any they only use the ones they have when busy. But most likely they won't be any left much longer they be buying more new buses to replace the last of them.

Their also upgrading the whole fleet of buses make them more greener by having them run off a cleaner better fuel.

I agree.
Very few to any buses in the regular fleet of WDW buses have stairs. Those would be the very old buses that have wheelchair lifts instead of ramps. We go to WDW several times a year for long trips and have not seen more than a couple of those buses in maybe as long as 5 years.

There ARE some buses that are NOT part of WDW's regular bus fleet that DO have stairs. Those are additional buses that are added for special occasions - like transporting people during races - or for very busy times - like during peak hours during Spring break and holidays. They are tour buses, similar to the Disney Magical Express buses and are not accessible. They are most likely to be used at the large resorts, like the All-Stars because they have huge numbers of guests to move at the same time. Even at those resorts, they are most likely to be used during the very busiest times of the day, like park opening or closing.

I asked last week if all of the "lift buses" have been retired and was told not yet. Only a couple are left in the fleet. They have not been told when the last ones will be retired.

Yeah the driver love driving the lift buses not the loft part just how high they was. They still getting use how wide and low the new buses are so Disney has becarefully with returning the last bus. Their have all the drivers blocking it and refusing to give them up. They been getting around thirty new buses at a time when they was replacing them so not sure if they slowed that down since they got the new articulated buses and now their switching to the new fuel. So that will take will be the nail in the coffin for those buses. Maybe Disney will keep one for the drivers to to look at and have memory's with or do a special thing for the last bus roll off. Maybe all the new buses lined up with the drivers saluting the bus as it leave for it last trip.

maybe they could do something lie this on world drive

Just a note on the order of them The Peter Witt car second in line is the oldest and is behind the PCC (President's Conference Committee) because the Toronto Transit Commission Legal department has some concerns because it doesn't have air breaks like the others do so it has to be in between two streetcars, The next one behind the Witt is a CLRV (Canadian Light Rail Vehicle) and its followed by one of our newest ones the Flexity Outlook

Yes they need to do a special little something I think be cool if they keep one for history and Use it for something else. Maybe make a Disney transportation museum one day. They been the work horse for so long for Disney but hey live past their prime and need to go long time ago but nice to see Disney buying the best buses in the business.

If Disney keeps examples of old buses I would like to see one of the tractor trailer buses displayed (trailers fitted with seats and windows; actually designed as transit buses).

The center portion with the doors was actually quite low so only a short ramp would have been needed for wheelchairs. There were steps inside to get to the higher portions over the wheels (rear) and over the hitch (front).

Yes, they had air conditioning.
