We usually drive to WDW but this year we are flying for the first time. How does everyone get from the airport to WDW. I called TTC but they do not have w/c cars and they said Mears is very expensive . Their advice was to just have the sky cap call for a w/c van/taxi.They said they don't like to advertise that they are available. I'm not sure if this the proper forum for this , but with the power chair, it seems appropriate. Thanks in advance

Have you thought about renting a wheelchair-accessible van?
This company was recommended by someone a few months ago.
Rainbow Wheels

Try calling Mears to ask. One family reported a year ago that they used Mears, were quite pleased and the price was no more per person than Mears regular price. I had called them before our trip last March because we were thinking of bringing DD's power chair and was told they had the service available. We didn't bring her power chair, so we just rented a regular van.
Mears Website . Their website doesn't list any accessibility information, but they will repsond if you call or email them.

Has anyone ever needed power wheelchair transportation from the train station in Orlando?

Friends got a great price on the train and I thought we might check it out on our next trip. Especially after the 12 hour drive home. In a few years my son will be old enough to share the driving-- not sure if that will help or make it more stressful!!! Anyway thought we would consider the train if we could get from the train to the resorts. We would also have a service dog along too

We're bringing an ECV with us in August on Delta and will be using Tiffany Towncar Van Service.

We won't need a lift, just the extra room for the scooter. I reserved by website and they confirmed no problem. I plan to reconfirm and iterate that we need the van closer to our trip.

If you can lift the person to a regular vehicle seat and just load the wheelchair, Tiffany should work for you.

Thank you clkelley. That will work for an ecv (and it is a good reminder for ecv users or manual wheelchair users with folding chairs). ECvs are made to come apart into pieces that weigh up to about 30 pounds.
Unfortunately, it won't work for a power wheelchair because they don't come apart and are way too heavy to lift (hundreds of pounds). Non-folding manual wheelchairs might fit in a van if they are not too tall or too wide.

I always use Mears bus service. I tell them in advance that I have a power wheelchair, and they have a six-eight seat van waiting for me. Same price as regular bus service, and because the van could only take two wheelchairs tops, you have a very good chance of the van to yourself. A taxi service for the cost of a bus!!!

Even if you do have to share, it will be with another wheelchair user - and you know how friendly we all are!

Looks like it's my turn to help. We have used Mears and also rented from rainbow wheels. The only "taxi" that you can use is Mears. There are some other smaller companys out there but mears is the biggest and you will have the shortest wait time. The last time we used them it was $15 each way from the airport and then $10 to go to parks in the Orlando area( $15 for busch). These prices are from about 20 months ago so call for the current prices. All they needed was 24 hour notice for a pick up time and you get a nice van, Usally your the only one but not always. If you want more freedom then rent a van. If there are not many people (like less then 5 including the person in the chair) there are a couple of companys that rent minivans. But if you need more room then that then you will need to use rainbow wheels. They have 2 full size vans which happen to be the only full size vans with lifts in the Orlando area. When we used them in Janurary they were $80 aday with a fee for pick up and drop off at the airport. Their vans come with a handicapped sticker to use. Any other questions let me know and I will answer.:bounce: :bounce:

I have used Rainbow Wheels too.

I had to change my dates slightly because they couldn't supply a van. I didn't know it was because they only had two.

They will also deliver anywhere in Orlando. They delivered my van to Grand Floridian and picked it up a week later from the airport.
