I am going to WDW with DH who is an a/k amputee with a prosthesis. We plan on renting a scooter off site. I was wondering if there will be any problem going down mainstreet in the snow during the MVMCP. Are the mainstreet stores scooter friendly inside or should he park it and walk around the store? He walks fine with his prosthesis just has no desire to stand or walk for long periods of time. Is the snow shredded ice? I'm concerned about him slipping if he does get out of the scooter. Thanks for all the help and info. This board has already made a big difference in our expectations for our trip.

I use my scooter in the stores all the time with no problem. As for the snow on Main St. I think it is shredded soap. I am not for sure though.

You shouldn't have any problems in the stores though.

You will be fine on Main Street. It is soap bubbles not real snow. And not enough to make anything slippery. Not a problem.

I have never had any problems with the "snow", either on Main Street during the MVMCP or on New York Street with the Osborne Lights.

In the stores he will have to be very careful, making sure the speed control is set to "tortise" and not "rabbit". More important, while you are with him in the stores remember that maneuverability is VERY difficult in the crowded conditons and don't expect him to follow you everywhere or take the same path you take.

Thank you all very much for your input. My husband thinks I'm obsessed with Disney. I'm glad I found this board so I can get my daily fix as we wait for our trip - Dec 4- 8th CANT WAIT!!!!

I thought you meant realsnow and I was trying to figure out what sort of weather was expected in WDW.
I can tell you that a power wheelchair or an ecv goes quite well in real snow (the kind we have in Minnesota), it's the ice, slush and/or ruts in the snow that are hard to go in.

Your friend may find it easier to walk in the stores because of the manouverability in the stores if he's not used to using an ecv. When we were in WDW in March, we found the stores had wider aisles than they often do (less merchandise with tourism not doing as well ??) so the stores were easier to get around in. Your friend might also find he gets too stiff sitting all day if he's used to walking around. The stores would be a good break from sitting.

I am laughing because I had the same thoughts :)! I've been to WDW many times in December. It has been cold enough for Disney to cover the sensitive plants, but I have never seen real snow.

You should be fine in "Disney snow!"

Since it has snowed in Miami, it certainly could snow in Orlando. In fact I have seen it in EPCOT over the lake on a few occasions. But it is really rare and a sight to behold.
BTW it snowed in Miami in Jan of 1976

I am from Ft. Lauderdale and was there in Jan of 1976!!! I saw it falling but it never hit the ground!! What I meant was the "Disney" snow!LOL I wasn't sure if it gathered in the streets or what! Thanks for your replies. I'm sure we'll have a great time!
