My DM just broke her foot and had to have surgery so she will be in wheelchair for our upcoming trip. We are staying at HOJO's, but she is concerned about the walk/ride to the park.

How is the handicapped parking at the Mickey and Friends structure? We have Premium passes so we could drive her over in the rental car and park there. Does it fill up fast?

What would you do? Drive and park, or tough out the walk from the hotel?

So sorry to hear that! I hope she recovers well and quickly! Foot injuries are awful; they can be so complicated and long to heal. Been there, done that.

I think the drive/park thing would be more complicated than walking. You're going to have to contend with elevators at the parking structure, getting on and off the tram, etc.

Wheelchairs are pretty easy to push; I wouldn't think the walk would be that bad. However, if you don't want to push her from HoJo, you could just drive over to the drop off area, and one of you stay with her while the other drives back to HoJo (free parking there anyway) and meets you in line or in the parks.

Would you consider renting her an ECV while you are in the parks? It might be a big help. They are pretty easy to rent and there are lots of them in the parks; it's not like there's any stigma to them there. Especially if she's got a cast or a boot on her foot. Then she wouldn't feel like a burden to you to push her, she can ride around in style and be comfortable.

My sister broke her foot & ankle a week before our planned trip to DL in March. Getting into and out of the handicapped parking area was a breeze, they'll pull you out of the main line of traffic just after the booths. Once inside the park she rented a ECV each day and did fine. The rides in Fantasyland were a bit tricky as she'd have to park the ECV outside and walk into the handicapped entrance which is the exit for each ride, kind of tricky to navigate on crutches w/ ppl exiting the ride. Other than that she did fine and had a great time. Be sure to make time for her to rest and elevate her foot, no leg rests on the ECV's so swelling can be uncomfortable. If you all take your time and go at her pace she should have a great trip.
